Mission: To substantiate in the public schools of urban america an irrefutable belief in the capacity of all children to reach the highest levels of learning and thinking demanded by our ever-changing global community. Our focus is teacher and administrator quality through professional development which incorporates current research from cognitive neuroscience on learning, teaching and leading. We partner with school districts to support the building of their capacity to advocate community-wide responsibility for realizing the learning potential of its children.

Programs: Buffalo:the goal of the program in buffalo is to transfporm chronically underperforming schools into learning environments where all students demonstrate high intellectual performances designed to enable them to meet and exceed the requirements of the common core state standards. It is a practical, engaging, research-based program that reduces the persistent achievement gap exhibited in chronically underperforming school. Student potential ans student performance using strength-based approach transforms leadership and teaching through high operational practices that accelerate achievement for all students. It uses a comprehensive framework to turn around underperforming schools that includes developing the instructional leadership and instructional capacity of the district and the individual school. The program consists of an instructional assessment, school site visits, leadership training and student invoices.

robbinsdale:nua continues in the areas of professional development and instructional leadership with high operational practices of the pedagogy of confidence. The partnership goals are to:- build positive relationships between and among students and teachers- amplify student voices- activate sudent strenghts- integrate prerequisites- situate learning in the lives of students- focus on high intellectual performance- provide enrichment

groton:the goal of the partnership is to provide a series of research-based professional development activities for teachers and administrators that are designed to build a common set of understandings regarding learning and teaching, to introduce powerful pedgogy that transforms learning, and to develop a district-wide set of expectations and experiences, a common language of learning and teaching and a shared vision that propels learning. The project consisted of an instructional assessment, ten site vists for the school and a student voice component.

I had just become Superintendent of Schools in Indianapolis and our board and I were faced with low student achievement in many of the schools. The National Urban Alliance (NUA) partnered with us, audited each school to look at instructional issues, designed a staff development plan for the district and implemented it. Not only did they signficantly help us raise student achievement, they also worked with us to find grant opportunites to help fund the partnership. There is no question that the National Urban Alliance makes a difference for all children and proves that poverty is not destiny.

The National Urban Alliance for Effective Education’s fundamental belief is that all children can learn. This alliance uses research-based methods to unlock the potential in all children by focusing on the their strengths. Through hands-on professional learning with teachers and students, NUA mentors teach and model the Pedagogy of Confidence by applying effective instructional strategies that promote high intellectual performances. In addition to promoting high intellectual performances, the professional learning incorporates social and cultural aspects as well. Teachers and students begin to utilize culturally responsive teaching as a way to master the course content and ultimately empower students and teachers to become lifelong learners. This dynamic alliance understands how to apply theories and weave them seamlessly into the mandated curriculum. Not only do the strategies work in the K-12 system, but they also work well in teacher preparation programs. The National Urban Alliance is needed throughout the country in order to eradicate the proverbial gap that has long plagued our educational system.

National Urban Alliance provided effective instructional strategies for teachers. The teachers were given tools such as community builders, thinking maps and culturally relevant pedagogy. The work with NUA inspired teachers and students. We loved our coach. NUA helped to deepen the teaching and learning for those teachers involved. The leadership component for the administrators also helped to guide the strategies throughout the school

We have been in partnership with the National Urban Alliance at our school for seven years, and the benefits have been tremendous. I can't think of a partnership that has been more fruitful for our students and staff. The professional development offered through NUA has resulted in long-lasting and fundamental changes in teachers' practice at our school, which is not the case with all professional development experiences. Our work with NUA has been so meaningful not only because of its content but because of the commitment they've made toward high-quality, ongoing, in-depth coaching. I highly recommend the National Urban Alliance as a top-flight non-profit organization.

National Urban Alliance for Effective Education is a fantastic organization that truly believes all students can reach their maximum potential on each of the following levels: academic, personal/social, and career. The organization promotes the use of effective instructional delivery and classroom practices that enable teachers to meet the needs of students across various cultures. Through a hands-on, continuous, research-based approach, National Urban Alliance spends time in the schools working collaboratively with classroom educators, students, and administrators to unlock the high intellectual performance all students have within them. I have seen students labeled as emotional disturbed and learning disabled go from a constant classroom disruption to being able to tell you which of the Thinking Maps should be used to explain the cause and effect of substances combined that produce a chemical reaction. Students have even led classroom instruction after collaborating with their teachers to develop a lesson. The keys to the success National Urban Alliance has experienced in the districts that have worked with the organization are the on-going, adult learning theory based support provided within the schools and district, the relevant, research-based professional development provided to staff and students, which is based on the unique characteristics of the students within each school, and the high level of commitment among the mentors with expertise in the field of education that deliver these services. National Urban Alliance for Effective Education has a proven record of success in several school districts throughout the United States.

The National Urban Alliance (NUA) is an excellent organization with a focus on children and teachers. Its research-based approach to teaching provides schools with much needed practices that guide teachers and students to higher levels of performance.
