Mission: National Relief Charities is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit committed to championing hope for a brighter future for Native Americans living on remote, isolated and impoverished reservations. NRC maintains relations with more than 1,000 reservation partners focused on leading positive change within their tribal communities. A BBB-accredited charity, our mission is: Serving immediate needs. Supporting long-term solutions. Our vision is: Strong, self-sufficient Native American communities.
Results: NRC is known among our reservation partners as a solid, steady resource that provides the right goods – the requested goods – in the right time and right way for tribal communities. We achieve 96% customer satisfaction, providing aid to areas most organizations cannot reach. In addition to delivering essential goods and services, NRC is developing community leaders who can drive social change in their reservation communities. We are also challenging dependency and poverty by involving community members in the delivery of our services--simultaneously enhancing capacity while meeting diverse needs. Each year, 90-95% of our scholarship students complete the college year, and hundreds of thousands of Native Americans welcome relief from day-to-day symptoms of poverty. Our annual report, effectiveness report, partner and participant stories, and press coverage are published on our website at www.nrcprograms.org. Our Charting Impact report is available at http://www.guidestar.org/report/chartingimpact/575773695/national-relief-charities.pdf. Our BBB report is available at http://give.org/charity-reviews/national/human-services/national-relief-charities-in-sherman-tx-627.
Target demographics: NRC provides consistent aid and services for Native Americans with the highest needs in the U.S.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Collaborating with our reservation partners, we improve quality of life for 250,000 Native Americans each year—and yet there is more to do.
Geographic areas served: NRC’s scholarships are offered nationwide to tribally-enrolled Native Americans students. Our long-term solutions and our material goods and services for immediate relief span 60 reservations throughout the Southwest and Northern Plains regions of the U.S.
Programs: NRC cares about quality of life and supports the self-determined goals of the tribes. Our programs (AIEF, ROAR, CIN, AIRC, SNRF, NAA, SWIRC and NRF) span education, animal welfare and Northern Plains and Southwest reservation aid. Specifically, our material services focus on nutrition, health, K-12 education, emergency relief, animal welfare, and holiday needs being addressed by our reservation partners within their tribal communities. Our long-term solutions support higher education, community investment projects, and capacity-building for local leaders and reservation communities. NRC connects outside resources directly to the reservations through our distribution network and reservation partnerships.

By helping a few of their workers do what it is they do, I observed the levels of professionalism and efficiency and caring to which they seem devoted - which is great!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be able to donate more.

National Relief Charities organization has been instrumental in providing services for our annual Veterans Day events for the past three years on the Hopi Reservation. The incentives and donations provided by NRC have been provided to everyone, from little children to the elderly, who attended the annual veterans day event. What items were left over, we used as part of the Christmas bags and goodies we provided for our local veterans.

Additionally, NRC was the key coordinator to assist us when we requested help for a local veteran who house nearly was consumed by fire several years ago. By their coordianted efforts, NRC was able to secure another organziation to pay for the costs of renovationg the veterans house. Mission successfully completed and veteran extremely happy. A show piece for other Tribal programs who could use this same assistance.

NRC is an outstanding non-profit organization and I would definitely recommend for all to use.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

None, just continue to help all who request NRC asssitance.

NRC provided shoes and boots to over 880 children at our elementary school this September. From the first contact with NRC in June to the final wave goodbye in September, the contacts were wonderful. Our many questions and concerns were always answered in a timely, efficient and pleasant manner.

Everything we needed to make the morning a success was provided to us. Had we had more staff on hand, and hadn't had two different and overlapping activities the students had to attend, we likely could have had all our students in new shoes by 11 a.m. As it was, everything was done in 4 hours. It was a whirlwind, but every child who wanted shoes had them.

The men who traveled so far to provide us the shoes had to be elsewhere by 1 p.m. It did not appear we were going to be finished getting students in shoes by that time. Their inventiveness and calmness allowed another school in our area to get shoes earlier than expected. The men also made it possible to have enough shoes left at our school for our students to try on, so that the driver could get on the road to a school site about 4 hours south of us.

Throughout what could have easily been a stressful, strained and unpleasant experience, the men of NRC who came to our school remained calm, humorous and so helpful. We will be better prepared next year. In the meantime, we are so grateful for everything these good men and their fine organization, NRC, provided to us. Tremendous appreciation to Denise as well. She answered my phone calls at all hours and did so much to support this endeavor.

We look forward to seeing NRC next year. We will be much better prepared. In the meantime, we are very appreciative of the graciousness, consideration and assistance NRC provided to our students and to our staff.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What changes? The only comment I had that wasn't glowing was that there were not enough of the slip on shoes and winter boots were substituted.

Tuba City Humane Society connected with NRC this spring and their ROAR (Rescue operation for animals on the reservation). We had no idea they existed but after we made contact things started to happen. Their office staff was so helpful and our first delivery consisted of dog food, bleach, paper towels and flea & tick treatment. The food and flea & tick treatments were given to our foster/rescue homes. The cleaning supplies went to our veterinarian who kennels and takes care of all our rescues until they are moved out for adoption. We also had a visit from their staff to Tuba City to talk with us and also the person in charge of the Southwest region came from S. Dakota and spent half the day visiting our home so we could touch base with all their programs. We found out that next year we can apply for grants for low cost spays & neuters and also to help with gas for the transportation of our rescues to Flagstaff & Kanab, Utah. We just received another pallet of blankets, toys, flea & tick treatment, bleach and cases of bottled water. There will be a very large free spay/neuter event in Nov. put on by Best Friends in Utah and we can use the water for all the volunteers. Also, ROAR has a calendar out for 2014 and two of rescues I kept are Miss March & Mr. Sept. That was a real surprise. Thanks to NRC for all your help for us and the animals. We appreciate it so much and really like working with all of your staff. They are so helpful and friendly. Sylvia Moore, Director

NRC helps our program be successful. I work as a Parent Educator with the public school district in Gallup NM and we service families by conducting home visits and working with teem moms in learning how to interact with their child and begin early in preparing their child for school readiness. We work with families with babies 0-5 years old. NRC helps by providing us with incentives to help these needy families with healthy living supplies. Our families look forward to receiving these products and I feel that they stay consistent with our home visits because they are excited to receive the incentives. NRC has been a great resource for us and we appreciate all that they do. Thank you for your help and support with our program!!

National Relief Charities has helped our elderly participants imensely by providing them with much needed items which they can not afford. Most our elders live on a fixed income and most live in remote locations on the Navajo Reservation and have no transportation. The incentive items are delivered each month on time, which is a plus because scheduling is important and time conflicts are avoided. NRC has made our relationship with our elders stronger, thus making us a tighter unit. The incentives provides our elderly with healthier living such as cleaner homes, chosing healthier eating habits, and making daily living easier. NRC employs the sincerest, energetic, compassionate, and hardworking empoyees who are always wiling to help in any way. I would recommend to any organization who is willing to make a change in lives such as NRC.

National Relief Charities (NRC) has provided our after school programming with incentive items for our students and their families. The products they deliver for our program are well needed and are of quality condition. Without NRC as one of our program partners, we would not be able to offer these items to our students and their families. The NRC staff is always helpful and friendly to work with; they try to provide products that are tailored to our program needs.

Overall our experience with NRC has been very good. The incentives help to bring people in for services and to keep their mammogram appointments so this service works great for us. We especially use alot of water since we plan exercies and fun run/walk events during our awareness months. I would like to see the sign in sheet with numbers making it easier to calculate the totals. I hear and see from other programs especially the Navajo getting more of a variety of things but we at hopi seem to get the same things over & over. Can you treat us the same as the Navajo communities? Thank you.

I am writing this comment in behalf of National Relief Charities. First, we want to thank you for your partnership and for taking the time to post a review. Next, we want to clarify that the incentives we provide are never based on tribe or region. Rather, they are based on the service being requested, the number of people being served, and the most suitable inventory in stock at the time of your request. We also want to remind you that Program Partners of NRC have several built-in opportunities for providing product and service feedback to us. For instance, the report you submit after your event or class is a good place to indicate how well the incentives met your needs. You may also discuss product fit with the Partner Support Specialist on your report follow up call. You may also discuss product options with your Service Coordinator when you submit your next request. We hope this information is helpful, but feel free to call us at any time for further clarification. And thanks again for the review.

National Relief Charieties has been providing food and incentives for our program which works with adults with disablities as well as providing food for our community. We have received monthly donations which have helped us feed over 700 families many of which live on the Navajo and Ute reservations. This has provided a better variety and a greater quantity of food for the struggling families that need it. They have also given us incentives which are used for rewards to encourage our disabled clients to be successful in their goals and objectives that help improve their quality of life. Their donations have made it possible for our program to provide better service for the individuals we serve.
