*8 years ago my life had taken a turn for the worst and I was addicted to Meth. I was arrested at the age of 44 and then offered Prop 36 and a way to get my life back. I was ordered to do my out patient at NCADD Sacramento. I completed 1 year of treatment through the help of NCADD and Staff. After graduating from treatment I came back as a volunteer to speak to the groups about the great experience I had in treatment and changeing my life. While volunteering I started to go to school to become certified in the field of addiction. I started working in a recovery home for women and became certified. I eventually became the program Manager of that recovery home. I worked there for 6 years. In December of 2008 I was offered a counseling job at NCADD and have ben here ever since. If it weren't for the great Staff and counselors there I would not be doing what I love to do these days , working with women and children who need guidence and caring. NCADD made all the difference in my life 8 years ago, and today I have the opportunity to do same for others. NCADD saved my life!

Our school district, San Juan Unified School District, SJUSD), has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with NCADD for the past 18 years. The district's Student Assistance Program (SAP) had it's beginnings through a partnership with NCADD staff who provided student support groups focusing on the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs. SJUSD has also relied on NCADD staff to provide prevention education and strategies to students and parents throughout the district. NCADD's Executive Director is well respected throughout the prevention community for her strong leadership and commitment to carry out NCADD’s mission which is to promote public understanding of alcoholism and other drug dependence as a treatable and preventable disease. I have personally been involved with NCADD and their programs for the past 15 years and appreciate the support they have provided for our students and families.

I can say for sure that without NCADD and there staff especially Beth I probably would not have been able to cope with all that I was going through , a very tough time in my life. The schedule they kept me on and the one on one counseling was instrumental in my recovery. I have now been successfully clean and sober and a productive part of society for over 8 years . NCADD needs to be kept alive.

This was a great class we took to help us in our parenting. We were only able to attend about half the classes due to a death in the family, but we still came away with new parenting tools. Angela and Criss are fantastic at what they do. My children loved going and anticipated it every week. The classes are interactive and very interesting. I love that we start on time and end on time! We are looking forward to taking the class again in the fall to get the rest of the tools!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being together with people in the same "boat" as me and gleaning from everyone's experience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

absolutely wonderful - love them!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the face of parenting as we know it.

Ways to make it better...

I could have attended all the classes

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding and advertising.

One thing I'd also say is that...

if you are a parent - you should take these classes!

I volunteered at NCADD as a requirement for a social work class, but a year later I am still here. Families Living Well a program that I truly believe in because I see the impact it makes on the families we work with. In addition, it is so much fun for everyone. Angela and Criss have been amazing mentors to me and I have learned so much from them. In turn I am able to teach and mentor the children in the program and know I am qualified because I learned from the best. FLW is really the highlight of my week, and I plan to volunteer for years to come.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the ways in which I've seen families improve their relationships and social skills over the course of the FLW program. Not every story is a successful one, we know we have done our job planting the seeds of information and being a resource for them.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I don't believe they are given all the resources they deserve.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning the FLW program and being able to share it

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

fantastic! Friendly, funny, caring, dedicated and motivational

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

establish new programs, hire new employees to limit the stress on the directors, and be able to run the programs without financial concerns.

Ways to make it better...

I could have more involvement in other programs as well

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding.

I volunteered at NCADD as part of my education as a student nurse, and I was very impressed with both the staff and the clients of the Options for Recovery Program. The staff is dedicated to helping women in recovery learn the life skills necessary to care for themselves and their children. They provide comprehensive services to their clients including health education, nutrition, and exercise. As a student nurse, I participated in these health oriented services. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I also enjoyed getting to know the clients and their children while participating in group activities. It was inspiring to here their stories and see their dedication to improving their lives. Several clients told me how grateful they were to be given the opportunity to participate in the Options for Recovery Program. I believe that my experience volunteering at NCADD enhanced my nursing education, and I am glad that I had the chance to work with NCADD.

The company I work for provides 40 hrs a year to volunteer during work hours. I chose NCADD because they work with women who are in need of counseling and education to better themselves because of dependence on alcohol and or drugs. These wome come to better their lives for themselves and their children. I volunteer once a month for 3 hrs and watch the babies that come in so that their mothers may attend the much needed classes. NCADD provides the women with the tools that they need to make their lives better. They help them become better mothers. They learn to cook from scratch and learn to clean better then they may have been doing before alcohol and drugs over time can take you away from doing those things sucessfully. They help them see a better way of life away from the alcohol and drugs. They help them with housing and even with jobs. Most importantly they provide a way to help the mothers be better mothers and women and to be productive in society sober and drug free.
