Nonprofit Issues:

Health, Human Services, Breast Cancer

Address:

2600 Network Blvd STE 300 Frisco TX 75034 USA

Mission:

The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services.

Results:

NBCF has provided over 937,000 patient services since 2001 through their network of hospitals. With rising healthcare costs, many uninsured or underinsured women cannot afford the cost of screening and diagnostic tests. By providing free mammograms and breast care services to underserved women, NBCF will increase the early detection of breast cancer which will lead to higher survival rates. Facilities within the screening and diagnostics program continue to report that because of grant funding from NBCF, they are able to help women in their areas that did not qualify for state or local funds to access mammography services. Any life that is saved is an example of the success of the program.

Target demographics:

Underserved and uninsured women

Geographic areas served:

Throughout the United States

Programs:

Screening and Diagnostics/Patient Navigation Services: Through its screening and diagnostics program, NBCF partners with medical facilities across the country to provide free mammograms and diagnostic breast care services to underserved women. In addition, this program requires that medical facilities within its network have the capacity to continue treatment after an abnormal finding or diagnosis of breast cancer. The program’s network includes 84 medical facilities in all 50 states. While NBCF provides free breast care services through its screening and diagnostic program, sometimes those in need are unaware that the program exists. Through patient navigation programs at medical facilities within their network, NBCF is able to promote early detection procedures to those that need it most. NBCF’s Patient Navigator Program is a proactive approach to helping patients overcome the barriers of cost, fear, and misinformation about a disease and its prevention. By helping underserved women to navigate the healthcare system, navigators help ensure timely diagnosis and treatment and provide the vision that gives women hope. Early Detection/Awareness Education: NBCF’s Early Detection Plan is an interactive tool and iPhone and Android app that promotes breast health education by creating a plan to help detect the disease in its early stages. It enables women to be proactive about their health by reminding them to schedule appropriate doctor appointments. Beyond the Shock® is a step-by-step guide to understanding the diagnosis of breast cancer presented in an interactive online website and mobile app. It allows those affected by breast cancer to learn about breast cancer, ask and answer questions in a safe and supportive online community, and hear inspirational stories from breast cancer survivors. The Breast Health Education Program provides breast cancer education and early detection services to women at community outreaches across the country. NBCF educates women about the importance of early detection and informs them about resources that are available in their community. Women are given the opportunity to receive free clinical breast exams from nurse practitioners. Breast Cancer Research: NBCF strives to help find the cure for breast cancer by working with some of the finest scientists in the world. Funding is provided to MD Anderson Cancer Center as they apply comprehensive team science to improve treatment and clinical outcomes for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). This dual focus stems from recent studies that point to remarkable similarities in the underlying molecular events that cause these two rare, aggressive cancers.

We've worked with the National Breast Cancer Foundation for three years now and each year our fundraising has been more successful than the last. The NBCF is always quick to respond to questions, ready to help, and really ensures that you're ready to kick off your fundraiser when the time comes. Each year we've received updated marketing packets with logos and social media graphics, along with web tools that help enhance our fundraising efforts. They are not a non profit that leaves you to your own devices - you can feel that your fundraising efforts are just as important to them as they are to you. We are happy to work with them each year!

We have partnered with the NBCF every July for the last 4 years! They are always so helpful and accommodating. Really grateful they took a chance on helping our event flourish. We raise thousands every year and spread a lot of awareness for Breast Cancer and the wonderful discipline of Parkour. Thanks NBCF

We had a great experience with the NBCF. From the start they supported us as we supported them. Information was past on to us right away as well as some things to get us started on our fundraiser. We hope to do this every year. Keep up the good work, thank you!

NBCF was very quick and responsive to my request to host an event. The touching story of a founder with a real-life experience was the reason that I wanted to do my best to help this organization.

The fundraiser that I set up with Westside Fitness was a 60 minute yoga class, focused on a yoga flow designed for breast cancer survivors. I am currently studying to become a yoga therapist and my area of focus is on using yoga for breast cancer recovery. Part of my certification is to teach several demonstrative therapeutic yoga classes, and Cathy (manager of Westside Fitness) was gracious enough to let me use her space to teach the two classes. Cathy and I both decided that entry into the class would be on a donation base only and all proceeds would benefit the fight against breast cancer.
We decided on National Breast Cancer Foundation because we believe in your mission, “to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services.” As a yoga instructor my goal is to educate everyone on the benefits of yoga and how it can help them in their daily lives. Through my research and from class feedback, I am learning what yoga can do for breast cancer survivors.

I believe that both classes were a great success with about 15 students participating in each session and walking away with a new and positive experience. Having never hosted a fundraiser before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was blown away by the amount of money raised and the support received. I walk away from this experience feeling encouraged and inspired and grateful to be able to support such a worthy cause.
