I work for the Father McKenna Center, we are a daytime drop in center for homeless men. We often have women come to us for help. Often we can't help them for their own safety so we try to find them help by referring them to N Street Village. N Street Village is an amazing place that helps women in need.

I recently moved to DC from Asia and wanted to get involved in the community here. N Street Village has been a wonderful place to volunteer. I appreciate the unique and innovative programs N Street offers (everything from employment opportunities to yoga and wellness classes) and the way they treat clients with dignity instead of charity recipients. I've also been impressed with the dedication of the staff and fellow volunteers. The impact of N Street is incredible.

the Bethany Women's Center. It's been a wonderful experience serving meals to women who come in the morning. They are able to start their day in a safe and supportive environment and then access services that help them work towards recovery and independence.

As a founding member of N Street nearly 40 years ago and current Board member, I can tesitfy to the many women's lives that have been changed through the continuum of care at N Street Village. It has grown from a relatively small homeless ministry of Luther Place Church to one of the city's foremost nonprofits in serving the homeless. Last year, N Street Village served sixty percent of the homeless women population in DC! N Street recently completed a merger with Miriam's House which expands its service to homeless women of DC with HIV/AIDS. Finally, N Street has won numerous awards for outstanding nonprofit management so donors can be assured that their contributions are being most effectively used in serving the homeless women population of DC.

I was introduced to N Street Village through an alternative spring break trip in 2006 when I was a college student in Minnesota. The following year, I came to Washington D.C. for a semester internship program and my internship was with the Steinbruck Center for Urban Studies (a ministry through Luther Place Memorial Church). Throughout my internship, I volunteered in the N Street Village craft room and was an overnight volunteer at the Luther Place NIght Shelter. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for me and I met life-long friends through my experience at N Street Village! I moved to Washington D.C. permanently in 2008 and have volunteered serving breakfast at Bethany Center since then. I am honored to support and volunteer at such a well-respected organization helping women achieve self-sufficiency!

The best part of volunteering at N Street Village is the joy that I receive when the women start valuing themselves. You can see their self-confidence and self-esteem grow, which is amazing to watch! To know that I may have had a tiny part of their success is awesome!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would make N Street Village even bigger so that more women can be helped by this wonderful organization!

N Street Village is a very special organization that keeps a sharp focus on its mission of serving homeless and low-income women in our community. Since its inception, the organization has employed a holistic approach to helping women achieve their highest level of independence with integrity and a strong sense of community. The women that we serve not only receive assistance and guidance to help them achieve stability and personal growth, these women serve the community by helping one another as well. I have met countless individuals whose lives have been profoundly impacted through their association with N Street Village - not just the women served, but those who serve the women as well.

improving the lives of homeless and low-income women. The women you meet at N Street Village are engaged in life. They look you in the eye and welcome you to their Village. The community shows these women that they are valued and have value to give to others.

This organization maintains a sharp focus on its mission, is extremely well run and is nibble enough to adjust to changing circumstances. The current effort to increase the donor base is important and necessary. I don't really have any suggested changes.

I have been involved with N Street Village in various capacities since its inception nearly 40 years ago and am currently a member of the Board of Directors. N Street Village originated the concept of a continuum of services to help women move from homelessness to their highest level of functioning. The women who pass through N Street, as well as those who stay, are an inspiration. It is an honor to know them and count them among my friends.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My own life. Hearing the stories of the women served by N Street Village continues to be an inspiration. What little I have given has been returned many times over.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help them to expand services by adding more low cost housing units for women graduating from N Street Village programs and by inspiring other organizations to use the continuum of services model.

For over six years, I have volunteered at N Street Village. I have served women who came to the center for a hot meal and have seen them recover through the years and go on to get a home of their own. The program works. The lessons taught at N Street Village not only benefit their clients but also the volunteers: Respect yourself. It has been an honor to work with N Street Village.

In 2007, I was looking for a way to become more involved in the community. I have always supported organizations that help people get on their feet and become self-sustaining, such as Dress for Success and Goodwill, so when I became aware of N Street Village, I immediately wanted to work with them. The issue of providing a safe and uplifting environment for women is near and dear to me, and I have the utmost respect for the people who work at N Street and its mission.

I have served meals at Bethany Women's Center and donated needed supplies such as toiletries and coats. Recently I became involved with the new Ambassador program which is a great way to help spread the word about the organization and what it does in the community.

Whenever I have the opportunity to serve meals, I am always touched by the diversity of the women who are coming in. I am so glad that there is a place like N Street Village for these women to come, eat, gather and feel safe and respected.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would make it a Women and Children's organization so that women who are in the same circumstances but have children as well would be able to benefit from the services.

I started volunteering with N Street Village over a year ago, primarily serving lunch and dinner. More recently I have become involved in their Ambassador program, conducting outreat on behalf of their great services and volunteer opportunities. This allows me to use my professional skills to serve N Street in the best way, in addition to serving meals and interacting with clients. Very comfortable, family atmosphere for volunteers and clients. Volunteers can organize their own classes and services and be very creative.

More opportunities to serve meals - it's pretty popular, probably because it's so fun!

I absolutely love working with N Street Village. I volunteer there mainly as an overnight volunteer, and I have really enjoyed myself every single time I have helped out. I can see how much of a difference this non-profit is making in the lives of women all over DC. I speak to these women and they tell me how thankful they are that N Street Village exists, and many of them tell me that they don't know where they would be without the support of N Street Village. I see that these women have regained strength and hope about their lives. N Street Village deserves to be recognized for the difference that they have made in the lives of women, and therefore in the community as a whole (since women are the anchor of all communities). Thank you N Street Village!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

create more shelters around DC in order to help more women who are facing the same problems.
