MAPS is an organization dedicated to exploring and developing the potential healing powers of psychedelic drugs. As such it treads on controversial and risky ground. Controversial because these are "drugs" which carry a generally negative connotation in our present world. And these drugs have even more controversy due to their association with people and movements in the controversial decade of the 1960's. Risky from the viewpoint of "legitimate" researchers who look askance at anyone who would take these drugs seriously. But they seek to find therapeutic potential and harness it for humane uses. They recognize that there appear to be therapeutic potentials from these substances which can help people who cannot be helped by currently available drugs and techniques. MAPS funds research by cutting edge physicians, psychologists, therapists and writers who share their vision. And they have many successes to their credit. With these continued efforts MAPS is seeking to restore psychedelics and their healing potential to the realm of respected and legitimate research.

I've been following MAPS for a decade now as I have a deep interest in the creative, cognitive, and medical uses of psychedelic substances. The power and potential of psychedelic substances speak for themselves to those that use and study them. MAPS is the voice of psychedelics to many people and organizations that would otherwise be deaf and dumb to the subject matter.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

an educational sense.

It would be hard to overstate the "wealth of purpose" of this noble organization. As a serious, scientific and legal advocate for research along the neuro-chemical frontiers of the brain and world, MAPS provides both actual service (publications, research-support, conferences, socio-scientific connection) with the virtually infinite therapeutic promise for the future of neurology and the human species as well. My name is Franccesca and I am currently a Psychology student living in Austin, Tx. I was exposed to MAPS through visionary art and a tight-knit community of people who saw that an organization like MAPS can pave the way to a better understanding, not only of medicine, but of ourselves. It is because of MAPS that I entered Psychology and I hope to one day be a part of the organization. MAPS's work had already touched the lives of many and their continued dedication to understanding psychedelic studies will lead to a bright future. The studies on MDMA and PTSD were astounding and well put together. MAPS follows strict regulations for their testing and uphold the up-most scientific integrity.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Having a better understanding of psychedelic studies and the benefits of understanding the good effects of psychedelics and the mind. I have dedicated my academic future to psychology to work in their studies and that alone has made my life better.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their complete dedication to finding results with complete scientific integrity

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the world.

MAPS is a wonderful program seeking medical and scientific knowledge in areas ignored by others. I am so grateful for the existence of this group. Having had experiences myself, I identify with the speculation that earth shattering benefits can be achieved through learning more about psychedelic substances. A research group such as this needs support and I hope that they get as much as they need. It's a hard road to walk alone, so I'm putting my effort in back of MAPS.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

identifying untapped evidence of beneficial properties in my private use of psychedelics

MAPS is a very important organization for the progress of humanity on earth in our current age. The scientific study of consciousness altering compounds is at the forefront of human scientific knowledge and significance for the development of human society, civilization and individuals, as well as for the health of the planet. This organization is effectively neutralizing harmful stigmas which prevent positive progress in the area of human psychology and spirituality. Psychedelics are a key issue for all people and must be dealt with in a mature, respectable, and interdisciplinary fashion. MAPS is guiding the vision of a positive and healthy relationship with these powerful medicines and should be commended for their courage, relevance, and maturity.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My view towards psychedelic people in relation to society. The denigrated image of a fringe culture without legitimacy has been transformed into one of acceptance of medicinal benefits in western mainstream society.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

According the the advice of Dr. Weil, focus on medicinal uses of psychedelics for the time being in addition to the psychological therapies such as the PTSD study. Focus on legitimizing imagery as he mentioned such as in the case of Sativex packaging.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Watching the talks from the conference. The opening talk and the talk by Andrew Weil both contained a lot of positive information to improve my view of consciousness altering medicines in our society.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Create meditation centers devoted towards spiritual development. Greenhouses devoted towards entheogenic growth. Education for Chemists, Botanists, Explorers, Therapists, Policymakers, Musicians and Artists.

Ways to make it better...

I had more money personally to devote to the organization for conference visits and materials, as well as to donate for research.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Changing the cultural climate in our society to one in which consciousness altering medicines are not demonized, but accepted. As Dr. Weil Said in the case of Sativex in Canada, also focusing on pure medicinal value right now rather than positive gains.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have a real intuition and vision of the future in which a positive integration of these powerful plant medicines play a key role in our science, relationships, enjoyable experience on earth, aesthetic development, and civilized progress as humans.

I've been following the work of Rick Doblin and MAPS for several years now and have also contributed to their fundraising program for a therapy study using MDMA with people suffering from PTSD. This is a remarkable organization with a brilliant vision aimed at the legitimate use of psychedelic substances in therapy. These substances have been badly misunderstood and denigrated in our modern cultures. MAPS is on the forefront of efforts to give them there rightful due. And they are doing this work for the right reason: compassion for people's suffering.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Just by keeping in touch with them, reading their online newsletters etc.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing their commitment to a long-term vision and their intelligence in going about it strategically, step by step.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

go a long way to helping create a saner, more compassionate world
