Mission: For over thirteen years, Multi-Arts, an innovative arts program for children ages 4-18, has fulfilled its mission of inspiring, guiding, and educating youth in the performance and visual arts. What started as a summer camp for twelve children in the director's garage has grown to be a year-round program that inspires dozens of students each year through an outreach network that includes public spaces and schools in a number of communities, a beautiful website, and, most recently, through the publication of an electronic magazine. There is no other organization in this area doing what we do so effectively to engage young people in becoming published and presenting artists.

I volunteered at Multi Arts earlier this summer, and was impressed by the amount of concentration the group of 3.75-7 year-olds I worked with willingly applied to it. The supervisors would do no more than introduce the activity, and the children would make it their own from there. I would recommend the program for anyone with a younger child looking for a fun time!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

There would be very few changes. One small thing is I would ask all those working with the children to make an effort to think of how what you say and do affects the child. This was done well for the most part, but is a minute detail the wonderful organization could work on.

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Likely

This is a great program and the children really enjoy themselves. It was wonderful to be a part of tis organization and I'm looking forward to dong it again. There is a great variety of activities led by people who really care and manage to inspire children to get excited about art.

I've had the pleasure of volunteering for Multi-Arts at their community performances .and ACT sponsored recordings. I enjoy the enthusiasm generated by the children because they have the choice of learning to write, build, direct, act or all the above. Thier performances are entertaining. Also, the students learn from the community based ACT- filming, photogrophy, etc. I've alwyas been impressed at how well the girls and boys work together!!! The instructors represent high quality performers/teachers in the NY/New England region. I am pleased that there is a creative arts option for kids in our community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

sponsored a financial need student

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

have a single place for business/production/storage, teaching, stage.

The quality of the program is probably mainly due to an amazing bunch of teachers. They are artists in life and believe in children bringing their best in expressing themselves.
Children have the opportunity to think outside the box and work with unexpected materials.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

… in seeing children overcome the fact that they thought they weren't creative and couldn't make anything big!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

bring more funds to offer the program to more children!

We found Multi-Arts when we moved to Amherst in 2002. It was our introduction to the area, and we were amazed by the energy and commitment of the professional artists running it. My daughter has returned every summer since. She discovered flamenco (how many programs for kids offer flamenco!) and has become a very good dancer. Multi-Arts also expanded her love of music -- and her love for the family behind the program. It is a program that should be year-round, in the schools, and expanded to allow a larger number of participants. It's great that they extend financial help to children who otherwise might not be able to participate.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

performances for parents

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make it year-round and enable it to keep the best counselors and teachers who have to move onto find full-time work

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

my daughter's joy

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

committed, professional, and enthusiastic

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand to a year-round program, do arts programs in the schools, help create offshoots of the program in other communities, and find a permanent space.

Ways to make it better...

one longer session was added to let those kids most interested in creating a performance piece do so.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial and not having a permanent space

One thing I'd also say is that...

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

yes, enriching to the community

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase fund raising, more techonolgy available, programs for younger kids

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how much enjoyment the kids experience

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

parents, intructors, student instructors, some from NYC University, other countries

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have thier own building, increase classes, camps, last for ever....

Ways to make it better...

larger facility, more performance equipment

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

fund raising

One thing I'd also say is that...

I never realized how this camp could help kids feel good about thier individual creativity and build self esteem.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months
