My entire family...especially my chirdren have benefited greatly from the creative performances we have had the pleasure to experience due to MTZO. MTZO has given us the opportunity to grow in the world of arts. My children now know what an opera is and what beauty a soprano and tenor bring to the world. I hope that MTZO will continue to dazzle. We look forward to so much more. Thank you MTZO.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
having the opportunity to attend the opera and several children's shows that were professional and entertaining.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the continued efforts that are made to keep the arts available to all of us. I know the board works very hard to stay financially solvent in order to keeep MTZO alive.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
fabulous and dedicated.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
educate and entertain the world in ways many do not know...due to the deication and hard work of the volunteers and the board members.

I have attended both productions put on by Martinez Opera. The high quality of artists and musicians make it a true opera experience. To have this quality of performing in downtown Martinez, is something that I never expected and I am so pleased that it is happening. Being a professional opera singer, I am thrilled to see that the Martinez community can have this art form brought right to their doorstep. I only hope that more people will support the company and keep it going.

The Martinez Opera provides high quality opera performances at an affordable cost. I have volunteered for the opera and am always impressed by the commitment of the Executive Director Maria Billingsley. She is the lifeblood of the opera. It is amazing to me that our small town can produce the caliber of performance that we do. We have gotten rave reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle and people come from all over the Bay Area to attend our opera. It is something we're very proud of here in Martinez. We do, however, always need support and funding from the community. Maria stages bi-monthly Dine with a Diva dinner events which draw about 80 people from our community and is a highly successful fundraiser. As a volunteer, I have paritipcated in many events and find each event highly rewarding. It feels wonderful to be in the thick of things and know that I am supporting a community treasure. Fellow volunteers are highly committed as well.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Find a permanent place to store scenery, costumes and props needed to stage an opera. Further, the Executive Director could be relieved of paying expenses from her own pocket to keep the opera afloat.

it wouldn't be the same. It needs lots more than it has, but its character is right at the level of a few $100k/year. Which it greatly needs.

Hubby and I went to a fund raiser for the MTZO recently for its "Dine with a Diva" dinner. What a fabulous time we had. The diva of the day was a young beautiful woman who had the voice of an angel. We need to keep the MTZO in Martinez because it is a jewel. The folks behind the MTZO (Maria Billingsly and friends) work very hard to raise funds for the opera to have a permanent home. We are so lucky to have them. Go MTZO!

It is such a delight to have a local opera company, especially when the performances are so exceptional. This is from people who have seen opera in Paris, Santa Fe, Walnut Creek and San Francisco. Keep up the good work

The Martinez Opera Company is wonderful. I have gone to several of their productions both small and large scale and have been delighfully entertained. The quality of talent is superb. Costume and set designs have been spectacular given their small budget. I would reccommned anyone to see one of their productions. Your money is well invested on a ticket!

I attended the 2008 perfromance of M. Butterfly on a lark - I had a friend who got me in as a ticketer. I am originally from New York and have attended numerous live performances at the Metropolitan Opera House there. So when I saw M. Butterfly in Martinez I wasn't sure what to expect. Since I didn't pay for it, whatever it was would have been OK. Instead what I saw and heard made me feel like I was again at a professional opera house. While it is a small company relying on many volunteers and local supporters, the producers really know talent and so there were some of the finest young voices in opera right here in Martinez. Also the small but professional orchestral group was as good as the singers. Actually I was amazed. From my standpoint there is nothing to be critical about in any negative sense. I thought the performance was easily worth spending $50 for. (Note - the last time I went to the Met I spent $110 for an orchestra seat - and that was 20 or 30 years ago. Of course in the wonderful MTZ H.S. performance center every seat is an orchestra seat! Mr. Leslie SPaiser
