The ideals of the organization were very very good and christian service oriented, the organization was highly structured and well planned but the leadership lacked "compassion". The way that they interacted with the staff was heavy handed and authoritarian at times. They did however, make a great effort to listen to feedback. They valued performance over motive which I could not reconcile with my own spiritual beliefs. They demanded a great deal from the staff. We worked 17 hour days for ten day stretches. In that time we often drove long distances. During the summer that I was there (2000)- there was a major car accident. The leadership did not seem to realize that it was due to exhaustion of the staff. I hope that things have changed since then.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Great planning and structure and theory.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have a more thoughtful and considerate approach to the staff.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The mountain atmosphere and experience with helping assist people in low income areas.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Quite "exclusive" and at times domineering. Interesting people but tough to be an "outsider" among them.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help the mountain areas find sustainable ways to live.

Ways to make it better...

More understanding would have been offered to the staff. Less demanding hours (10 hour work day max).

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Making their workplace safe and enjoyable.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The leadership was so structured that it was down to the minute. Anything that anyone questioned was considered "rebellion". Some parts of this faith based organization were truly toxic.
