I am a monthly contributor to Modest Needs. They are very efficient with applying donations to needs, and they epitomize the starfish principle: you can't save all the world's beached starfish, but you can help the one that you return to the ocean, where it can thrive. This isn't going to solve the world's problems, but it can - and does - solve the problems that a single person or a single family has, through no fault of their own when there's a temporary break in the paycheck-to-paycheck existence of so many Americans. Modest Needs addresses just what the name implies - people who need a very modest amount to sustain them through a difficult period in their lives.
You alone cannot end pandemic war, world hunger, or systematic genocide, but you alone CAN make an existential difference in one family's life with just a few dollars at the right time.
I am a monthly donor to Modest Needs and have also made special donations in memory or dedicated to someone special. I donate because their mission is so special, their founder has such a big heart and they do not hound you for additional donations. I know my money is well spent and I am proud to be able to help people over those difficult humps life throws our way.
I've been giving to Modest Needs for years. All requests for assistance are vetted and very little is spent on overhead. It's amazing to see how such a relatively small amount of money can completely change someone's life.
I have been a donor to Modest Needs for close to 10 years. I appreciate the work that they do, and love the fact that rather than my donations going into a large, amorphous fund, they are used in a tangible way that allow me to truly make a difference in a person's life.
I've been a regular donor to Modest Needs for over a decade now. What attracted me to the organization was their mission... not to pull people out of poverty, but to keep them from going into poverty in the first place. By removing one obstacle, it allows people to keep going. Their impact on people's lives is huge. The recipients are able to maintain their self-sufficiency and dignity.
Speaking as a donor, Modest Needs is a place where it doesn't matter how much or how little you can afford to give. Whether it's $1 or $1,000, you know that your donation is equally appreciated, and that it will be used wisely. Modest Needs is proof-positive that you don't have to be rich to make a difference.
I have been a donor for long several years now. I love that I can choose my money to the recipient, and that the mission covers a gap that help people in need from a respectful compassionate place, helping avoid for regular people to start the economic spiral down. Modest needs is an organization that learn and evolve.
The revamping of their website was very good and the social media activity is very good. I love that I am notified to read in the own recipient words how my little gift impact them and you can see in the testimonials that a lot of people feel compelled to pay it forward.
Was and is my non-profit of choice !
I have been a monthly donor for 10 years, increasing my contribution every time I get a raise. I like being able to choose which request(s) to support. I generally review the ones that are local to me and the ones that will expire soonest. I feel that my donation is going to make a real difference and not to support the infrastructure (or over-paid executive director) of other organizations.
This is one of the few charities I feel good supporting; I love the way you can direct your donation and I feel like your gift gets to the one in need with a minimum of overhead. Keep up the good work, guys!
I have been with Modest Needs since the beginning. Unlike other sites that also rely on donations, I know that my money is going to the people who need it most. From the beginning, Modest Needs has been doing a great job! Grown from the heart and mind of a single person who wanted to help those less fortunate than himself, even though he only had a modest salary of his own to share. I love the tag line. Modest Needs, small change a world of difference. That says it all!
I love that my small donations really do visibly make a difference in people's lives, including frequent thank you letters from recipients. Also, Modest Needs fills a niche that no other non-profit fills, and does it admirably.
