Being a donor to Modest Needs has enriched my life. I'm privileged to have this vehicle to identify good people with pressing needs and can help them through a temporary rough patch. The organization is transparent, efficient and effective. Please join me. In supporting Modest Needs to continue its good work. The knowledge and engagement of knowing exactly where your money is going and the uplift it gives to people going through tough times to know that there are strangers willing to help is so gratifying.o

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Encourage donations from private foundations so they could help more people.

Modest Needs is a wonderful organization that is there to assist the "working poor" who are normally unable to receive assistance during periods of crisis. What I believe makes it unique is that they do not necessary fund your situation directly but rather post your difficulty (minus personal info) and have others in the community assist you. You do not have to be rich to support someone in a difficult time either. As a contributor, you can do a little as a dollar to help an individual or family out of a temporary crisis. I was personally in a situation where I was behind on my mortgage due a string of life circumstances. Modest Needs was able to assist me and helped to get me back on my feet. I now donate on a monthly basis to this wonderful organization as well as pass their information on to others I know going through difficult times. Thank you again Modest Needs for being there!!

The orgainzation is so well organized and accessable I would not change a thing.

Modest Needs is my favorite charity, and I have a monthly automatic donation applied. Needless to say, I was concerned when I saw the "Donor Advisory" recently posted. I immediately emailed the Director of Modest Needs, Dr. Keith Taylor, and within an hour had a very detailed explanation of the circumstances and the perspective of his organization about the issues raised. There were follow up emails, as well, to myself and the other member of this household, who also has a monthly automatic donation. The advisory posted by Charity Navigator does not tell the full story, and if you have concerns, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Taylor and receive a very reassuring and detailed response. Both members of this household are continuing our monthly automatic contributions without concern about any possible impropriety. This is a wonderful charity that directly touches and improves the lives of many working Americans.

I have an automatic monthly donation going to Modest Needs Foundation because I feel that it is an invaluable asset to those in need. Working folks facing a crisis that might result in homelessness, unemployment, or bankruptcy can apply for a donation to cover an extraordinary, unexpected debt. The recipients are vetted, and the money goes directly to the vendor to pay the debt--a medical or car repair bill, for example. You receive an email when the recipient is funded, and a thank you email from the recipient as well. If you want to impact individuals in need very directly and help working Americans avoid a catastrophe in their lives--this is the charity for you. I love this charity, as it is a very transparent organization, so you know exactly where your money is going.

For many years, I have been following the evolution of Modest Needs from a one-man operation into a nationally-recognized non-profit organization. The one thing that impresses me most is that this organization has never lost its vision or compassion, even as it has taken on more and more responsibility, more and more clients, and learned to do more and more work with less. I admire this organization for keeping its focus and for staying true to its own 'modest' roots. They understand that people matter most, and that as long as they continue to do good work, the support they need to continue that work will be there. I intend to be a part of that support for a very, very long time to come. I hope you'll consider joining me. This organization is truly worthy of any support you can offer it.

I became a donor to Modest Needs shortly after the organization launched. I later became a monthly donor, and I've never stopped giving because this is one place that I can really see the impact of my contributions. I especially love getting the thank you letters from people I've been able to help via my contributions. Modest Needs really understand high-impact, low-cost giving, and I highly recommend them to everyone.

I've been a pledge donor with Modest Needs almost from the beginning. It is very important to me that everything is so transparent and approved by the watch dog associations.. All approved applications are thoroughly vetted. You pick who gets your donation. You are notified when the vendor of the product or service receives the payment. The applicants do not receive the donation themselves. You read their thank you notes. Every application can almost bring you to tears. Keith had a small but important vision when he started this organization. God had a huge vision and He ran with it. It has continued to grow and gather supporters, organizations and foundations that want to be part of this vision. It not only makes you feel very good about yourself for being a part of it, but reading the applications make you very grateful for the blessings you have. When friends say: "I'd like to help survivors of [pick a disaster], but I don't trust the big name organizations who can't account for where all the millions of dollars went...", I have an answer for them. Modest Needs not only can, but does, account for where the money went. It went to help your neighbors.

This charity helps those who might otherwise fall through the cracks and end up homeless, hopeless, or otherwise distressed. They do more with small donations than any other charity I know of. I have been a donor for several years, and personally know recipients of their wonderful works.

I was raised on positive thinking and giving to others. When I discovered Modest Needs, I knew I'd found a charity worthy of my limited resources. I've been disabled for nearly 20 years, but I make sure my small donation goes monthly to this resourceful organization. Modest Needs helps those who don't fit the criteria required by other charities, and who would otherwise enter the downward spiral into poverty because of a single, unavoidable event if Modest Needs' donors were not to step in with help. Please give generously to Modest Needs--they not only keep recipients from becoming a burden on society (that's all of us), but they help them maintain their dignity at the same time!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

reading the feedback from those who've been helped, and meeting some of those who've been helped at sponsored local events. It really puts faces on my donations.

I have been a recipent of ModestNeeds and they have been a Blessing from Heavan helping me out. I was a severe heart paitient and needed a bathtub as mine had been vandualized and they replaced it so I would not have to stand and wash in my kitchen sink anymore. One donor helped me get a Army Parka coat so I could walk to get my perscriptions some twelve miles away. They have coated my roof as well which has stopped my floors from rottening out as well. This has been my favorite Charity because it has a heart and cares and gives to help fight Poverty and so many people whom are suffering through no faults of thier own. I give every month to this Charity , not because they helped me but because of the kindness and help that was there for me . I live on so low of an income and there was no help anywhere else and someone told me anout ModestNeeds several years ago and they have grown as I have watched and continue to send them my little one dollar bill a month. s long as I live I will donate to this Charity that works with small change to help so many people. I am a Donator , Volunteer Spokesperson and also a client for this worthy Charity Foundation.

They have hearts of angels and God Bless them for all they have helped and the many more they will continue to help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dr. Taylor and the Staff have angels on thier shoulders and are the most giving and caring people I have talked to and Love.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Lord knows it could help 20 million people with just such money as that.

Ways to make it better...

I could have been able to Donate more.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Needing more paticipants and donors and programs to keep helping more people in more ways.

One thing I'd also say is that...

God Bless ModestNeeds.org and all it's people.

This is my favourite charity, bar none. It is of great comfort that Modest Needs has an excellent vetting process and we can choose our own recipients. This year for Christmas, we got my Mother-in-Law a Gift Certificate for Modest Needs. She had never heard of them before but 'spent' her gift as soon as she opened it. Not only did it give us great joy to give it to her, but she absolutely loved it! And now, one more person knows about this wonderful organization. I hope others will also get the word out via this method. If you're thinking about donating, donate it to someone else for their gifting. Share the love and spread the word.

As a regular contributor to Modest Needs, I am very impressed with their mission. By allowing the donors to determine how they would like the donation applied-and by applying 100% of the funds received to the people in need-Modest Needs is unlike ay other charity I contribute to. The core belief that small donations can make a big difference is proven on a day-to-day basis. The small donations fund unexpected expenses that could cause another person/family to fall into the poverty cycle. I have also been consistently impressed with the staff at Modest Needs, and their work in determining eligibility.
