Mission: Provide a model of urban sustainable living through education, demonstration, and celebration in the missoula community. Our most significant programs are the missoula tool library, truck share, and sustainability living workshop series and its related residency project.

Programs: Tool lending library served over 400 households this year, with close to 700 people borrowing tools for home improvement, lawn and garden care, food preservation, and more. Our library has over 2,000 tools available for our members to borrow.

educating the greater missoula community through demonstrating sustainable urban living methods with the backyard sustainability workshop series, resources library and website, and youth focused programs to expand our impact in future, urban decision makers.

residency program allows our residents to live in our community as part of aplanned living environment. M. U. D. Residents care for the community gardens, help run other programs, and contribute time as volunteers leading tours of demonstration projects on our sites. In exchange, m. U. D. Residents receive low rents for their efforts. This program allows city residents to explore using sustainable living techniques so they can live with less impact throughout their lives, especially when they move on in the future.

truck share program reduces large vehicle trips on our community by allowing our members to borrow a truck for large hauling tasks, like moving, gardening, waste removal, and other projects. M. U. D. Members can then purchase smaller vehicles, or use sustainable transportation methods for everyday use, and reserve the trucks for a few times a year they need a larger vehicle.

I have been a member of MUD since we bought our first home. We used the Tool Library constantly as we remodeled - it was wonderful to not have to buy tools we only needed to use a couple of times. The Tool Librarians were always extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Then, I joined the MUD board almost two years ago and have been so excited to be a part of MUD's incredible growth and innovation over this time period. I am proud to be a part of what's next.

I've been a MUD Board member for a few years now and I can't imagine devoting my time to a better organization. MUD is focused in its programs and is always upbeat and positive about the changes we are trying to make toward a more sustainable society.

The crew's energy at MUD is astounding. The results are wonderful. We get little kids to understand the connection between healthy bugs insects and healthy food. We empower folks to reduce the cost of living by borrowing tools when they can't increase their income. Plus it's really fun.

MUD is the best! The workshop series, tool library, and truck share all make this a WONDERFUL community asset. Furthermore, the youth educational program (YEP!) is the only complete structured educational plan that teaches sustainable practices that all home can and should be utilizing.

MUD is an immeasurable asset to our community in Missoula. Unfortunatly it is way to under utilized, but there is only so much impact a non-profit can have. Though people know and love MUD and a donation would only be that more gracious.

I first encountered MUD by shoveling llama manure for the annual sale--surprising how many people I've met in Missoula in similar circumstances! I've made great connections through volunteering with MUD and continue to do so as a board member.

MUD is the epitome of how a small local organization can have a large impact on peoples lives and the community. MUD's Tool Library gave me the resources to insulate and renovate my basement myself - and the tool library staff gave me valuable tips throughout the process. Their commitment to demonstrating sustainability practices is what inspired me to be a member of the board and I am proud to be part of a group seeking local, simple solutions that can help solve large scale problems.

I've been on the MUD Board for almost 4 years now and it has been an amazing experience. We have built the organization to where we have a great Board, strong staff and programs (tool library, truck share, workshops, demonstration site, and youth education). MUD celebrates 30 years in Missoula in 2011. I'm so proud to be a part of its rich history in this community.
