I have been a member of MUD since we bought our first home. We used the Tool Library constantly as we remodeled - it was wonderful to not have to buy tools we only needed to use a couple of times. The Tool Librarians were always extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Then, I joined the MUD board almost two years ago and have been so excited to be a part of MUD's incredible growth and innovation over this time period. I am proud to be a part of what's next.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

By having a house that, for the most part, is a do-it-yourself effort. I have also learned so much about sustainable living from eating locally to native planting to laying tile and plastering.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Work towards a sustainable revenue stream so MUD can offer even more services to a growing membership.

I've been a MUD Board member for a few years now and I can't imagine devoting my time to a better organization. MUD is focused in its programs and is always upbeat and positive about the changes we are trying to make toward a more sustainable society.

The crew's energy at MUD is astounding. The results are wonderful. We get little kids to understand the connection between healthy bugs insects and healthy food. We empower folks to reduce the cost of living by borrowing tools when they can't increase their income. Plus it's really fun.

MUD provides priceless resources to the community of Missoula through the truck share, tool library, demonstration site, classroom and outdoor education, workshops, and community events.

MUD is the best! The workshop series, tool library, and truck share all make this a WONDERFUL community asset. Furthermore, the youth educational program (YEP!) is the only complete structured educational plan that teaches sustainable practices that all home can and should be utilizing.

I needed some extra tools to finish a project on a broken back porch/patio. I was able to save both time, money, and gas by using the tool library at MUD.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Move the tool library to a more central place in town and also allow for the site demonstration project to fully reach its potential.

MUD is the best sustainable living non-profit in Missoula. MUD is expanding the services they provide and the number of people they serve.

MUD has been an invaluable source of knowledge and community building. Through the workshops and serving on the Board of Directors, I have learned many skills and participated in the day-to-day operations of a small non-profit. MUD gets people excited about creating a better, more sustainable community and way of life.

I would like to see MUD grow in the Missoula community and beyond. I hope to be around when everyone in Missoula (and Montana for that matter) know about MUD and practice living sustainably. Ideally, if money was not an issue, all of MUD's workshops, events, and resources would be entirely free to members.

MUD is an immeasurable asset to our community in Missoula. Unfortunatly it is way to under utilized, but there is only so much impact a non-profit can have. Though people know and love MUD and a donation would only be that more gracious.

I first encountered MUD by shoveling llama manure for the annual sale--surprising how many people I've met in Missoula in similar circumstances! I've made great connections through volunteering with MUD and continue to do so as a board member.

MUD is the epitome of how a small local organization can have a large impact on peoples lives and the community. MUD's Tool Library gave me the resources to insulate and renovate my basement myself - and the tool library staff gave me valuable tips throughout the process. Their commitment to demonstrating sustainability practices is what inspired me to be a member of the board and I am proud to be part of a group seeking local, simple solutions that can help solve large scale problems.

I've been on the MUD Board for almost 4 years now and it has been an amazing experience. We have built the organization to where we have a great Board, strong staff and programs (tool library, truck share, workshops, demonstration site, and youth education). MUD celebrates 30 years in Missoula in 2011. I'm so proud to be a part of its rich history in this community.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping me learn about nonprofit governance, working with a team of volunteers, demonstrating sustainability to the community

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

move the tool library and truck share to a more visible, accessible location and turn the Northside site back into a full-scale residential demonstration (which is in the works right now through a capital campaign)
