Mission4Maureen is a mission that was started in memory of my college roommate and dear friend. Maureen was such an amazing and beautiful person inside and out! Her family absolutely adored her and vice versa. I can tell you that without a doubt this mission comes from the heart and with each person that it helps Maureen's spirit is renewed- what a cherished blessing. Everyone that knew Maureen knows that her zest for life must live on some way and some how and I know this mission is the way to for that to happen. I am forever a donor in Mission4Maureen

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the voice of Maureen's father.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue to have my heart at the core of this mission.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

reconnecting with the Walkers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

kind and quick to respond.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

only get stronger and more devoted to their cause.

Ways to make it better...

I could be there in person to experience the benefits of this mission.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the economy and the clock.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I've never seen a mission for a lost love one evolve as this one in its ever growing and ever expanding ability to capture hopes and dreams of so many.

Brain cancer does not discriminate. Young, old, generous or poor, race, creed...it does not matter. The only difference between brain cancer patients is who can pay for treatment and not lose their home and who cannot. Mission4Maureen tries to help those who don't have the resources to afford treatment.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

those families who have not lost their homes while dealing with the high costs.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

I followed Maureen's story when she was sick with glioblastoma, the same cancer that took my mom ten months later. In her, I saw a woman with the same spirit as my mom- infectious, warm, caring. I watched as her community supported her and her family and it appears contiues to do so. This family and organization is such a positive part in the fight against brain cancers and for brain cancer families!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping brain cancer patients, folks who don't generally receive the attention of the mainstream cancer organizations.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Let other people know some of the strain of caring for a brain cancer person, and while everyone wants to be positive, it would be helpful for folks to know that the prognosis for most brain cancer patients isn't good.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The positive way it has carried on Maureen's spirit with others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I am not local, so I have not met anyone personally from the organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Give support to many more brain cancer families. Brain cancer is different than other types of cancers b/c it generally affects the cognitive and physical aspects of the patient from diagnosis. The stress on the caregiver is terrible!

Ways to make it better...

It seems with their revamped website that they are really putting a face to those folks they serve while respecting their privacy.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

probably the economy, as with all non profit organizations.

One thing I'd also say is that...

you are doing a great job!

I have watched this organization grow from a direct-assistance fund for Maureen herself to an independent foundation that has helped dozens of patients across the country. The work they do is truly inspiring, and their dedication to brain cancer patient assistance is without equal.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

...the personal stories of the people they have helped.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

...seek additional exposure and awareness however and wherever I could.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

...how much they truly care about the people they help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

...very dedicated and sincere.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

...keep doing what it does so well, but for SO MANY more deserving people.

Ways to make it better...

...more people would "do something."

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

...comparative obscurity in an economy that makes charitable giving difficult even for the well-intentioned.

One thing I'd also say is that...

...this organization does great work.

M4M is based on the altruistic thoughts from Maureen before God called her home. This nonprofit provises financially for those cancer patient's and their family who are likely to have severe financial issues. Maureen was a blessing to all who knew her, her caring ways continue in her memory. Our world will never be the same, and it's not because Maureen is gone. It is because she was here in the first place.

Maureen thought she had migraines. Terry thought he had a sinus infection. Michael was treated for snoring. Robert blanked out while driving his car. None of them imagined they had brain cancer, but all of them suddenly had mountains of medical expenses. Not everything is covered by insurance and trying to afford treatment and pay normal household expenses becomes an immeasurable challenge. For these patients there are few organizations to which to turn but Mission4Maureen is one of them.

Our experience with Mission4Maureen was brief but unbelievably helpful at a very stressful time in our lives. My son, Zachary, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain stem tumor, at age 5. He underwent surgery and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. As you can imagine, just the news alone has been devastating to our family, but we are managing to wade through this process and deal with each step day by day (sometimes minute by minute). Although there is never a “good” time to receive such news, this happened to hit us at a particularly rough time in our financial circumstances. Due to the recession, we experienced a dramatic loss of income. The medical circumstances surrounding childhood cancer are stressful enough, and the financial burdens only exacerbate it. When we received the forms, we weren’t comfortable asking for a specific dollar amount, so we just said that any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated. Just when we thought there was no relief in sight, our prayers were answered faithfully when we received an unbelievable letter from the Mission4Maureen organization announcing that we were to receive an extremely generous cash donation payable on our behalf. Needless to say, we were ecstatic and overwhelmed with the response we received. In the past, we have donated to other organizations that help families in need in similar circumstances, never knowing that we would one day be a recipient of others’ generosity! If others knew that one day it could be “their” family member, perhaps there would be many more programs available…but there is no crystal ball. This is a gift from that comes straight from the heart with LOTS OF HELP from wonderful organizations such as Mission4Maureen that actually don’t just sit back and wait for people to contact them but REACH OUT to the affected families through caring social workers. We would not have known that this organization existed had it not been for the intricate arrangement of many wonderful people. Additionally, we would like to thank those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to contact donor families as well as those who are continually working to generate the funds that make Mission4Maureen and similar programs possible. Without their effort, combined with the generosity of millions of donors, this financial assistance would not be possible. Again, we’re so thankful for organizations such as Mission4Maureen and all of the kind and compassionate individuals, families and businesses that band together to donate time and financial resources to assist families in crisis. Please consider Mission4Maureen in your quest to honor Great Nonprofits! Thank you. P.S. In addition to the wonderful monetary gift, please also remember to PRAY for Zachary’s health - as well as the health of all of the children who suffer from this terrible disease - prayer is a free, yet priceless, gift!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way that they found a way to reach out to our family when we didn't even know that Mission4Maureen existed to help families such as ours! WOW!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

keep on doing what they're doing. Get the word out more through national publicity.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that they made the ENTIRE process so effortless on our behalf...from filling out the initial request form to sending financial assistance directly on our behalf! One less hassle when we are dealing with soooo many issues. THANKS SO MUCH!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

unbelievably wonderful to work with. The kindness and compassion shown to us was simply incredible. We're so very grateful to everyone at Mission4Maureen.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach out to even more families in similar circumstances around the globe. The greatest gift we can give our children (especially those in crisis) is our time. This financial gift allows us to spend our time with our kids with less worrying about bills.

Ways to make it better...

we knew more about this organization.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the enormity of helping so many families in need, the task of getting the word out about what they do and who they serve and the quest to do so much for so many donors. Unbelievable! Great JOB!

One thing I'd also say is that...

NO ONE expects to go through this with a child! Everyone thinks that cancer affects adults, but kids get it too. Brain cancer can be especially debilitating as it can affect EVERY bodily function. We need to help these families AND combat this disease!

As a cousin of Maureen, knowing her strength and courage and the will-to-live during the traumatic time she had and the fact it was only natural for her family to continue her plight to fight this disease through her name is a compliment to her legacy and family. With the growth of this non-profit organization has something to be said for.

Mission4Maureen is the most amazing nonprofit organization I have ever been involved with. It has opened up my mind and heart about cancer, what can be done to help those with cancer and how amazing people are that you don't even know who have a loving and Godlike spirit. I have referred people to the organization that have people in their life that are fighting the cancer and might need guidance, help, prayers, resources. When I first learned about Mission4Maureen, it was a small website to update people on Maureen's illness when she was sick and her family. I was so addicated to learn how she was doing, pray for her and connect with others who shared the same interest. I have continued to follow the organizaiton and website and love to get updates on how the Maureen's family is doing and what wonderful things the organization has accomplished for others that are suffering from cancer. Although Maureen is no longer with us here on earth, her legacy and that of Mission4Maureen lives on so strongly...it's amazing!!
