Mildred's Umbrella is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to growing Houston's theatre community and empowering women through the performing arts. Since our inception in 2001, we have employed local artists to aid us in that goal. Our priority is to achieve gender parity in the theatrical arts, striving to promote the work and provide opportunities to playwrights, actors, designers, directors and crew members who are local artists, with a focus on women (not excluding the men) in new works never seen in Houston. Our primary contribution to this goal is offering Houston audiences innovative theatrical works unavailable anywhere else. We strive to make each production a unique experience, both in the creative execution and the choice of material.

Reviews for Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company

Rating: 5 stars

I've worked as the Literary Manager for Mildred's Umbrella since 2009, and I've been Associate Artistic Director since 2011. The company has a great vision and puts on amazing productions, often on a tiny budget. Audience response has been uniformly positive to our shows. There has also been a ton of growth that has happened in the last 3 years that makes me excited for the future of Mildred's Umbrella. Much credit goes to the loyal company members and the guidance and vision of artistic director Jennifer Decker.
