the midnight mission's homelight family living program goes beyond emergency care by providing long-term solutions with structure and an environment emphasizing accountability, responsibility and finding opportunities. We remove the obstacles to self sufficiency while our participant families learn basic living skills in a comprehensive and supportive 12-month program. The program provides individualized care coordination, professional services, work force development, budgeting and financial planning, to name a few. Families are given resources to settle into the program, and within 45 days are generally required to seek and obtain employment and begin providing their own resources within their household. The program stipulates that 70% of their income must be saved so they can leave the program with a substantial savings account. Participants are referred to the program from our main facility, local shelters, churches, substance abuse programs, domestic violence programs and government agencies. In 2014, a total of 19 families participated in the program. The transition success rate of our families to independent living is greater than 85%. Over 1,414 hours of counseling were provided and nearly $64,186 was saved by our participant families. Accordingly, the homelight family living mission statement is that it provides the path for families in crisis to reunify, rebuild and restore their lives. We provide education, career preparedness, counseling, and life skills to break the cycle of abuse & poverty to ensure independent and successful living.
