"The following thank you note was recently received in the MMA office regarding long trips this patient had to make from his Virginia home to specialist medical appointments at the University of Virginia (UVA) Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was helped through MMA's ground transportation program named Angel Bus. This ensured his only option for access to specialized medical care."

"I don't know how to thank you for helping me with the gift card for gas to help with my trips to UVA. I thank you so much and also it meant the world that you didn't make me feel like a beggar. God has taught me a lot lately about asking for and receiving help. I’d always been so independent. Thank you again and may God Bless you and keep your mission strong to be of His Service.”

On the afternoon of November 29, 2012, I heard the unforgettable and long awaited words, "You've just been accepted at the Mayo Clinic Neurological Department. We look forward to seeing you in Rochester, MN, on January 15, 2013, at 12:45 pm." Having been ill for nearly three years with multiple complex neurological conditions, MS, and a spinal cord injury, without any successful treatment, I was determined to find help. I viewed this as my last opportunity. To get an appointment that quickly at the prestigious Mayo Clinic was amazing. Shortly after the call ended, reality set in. How am I going to get to Rochester, Minnesota? In moderate panic, I contacted a number of people who could advise me on this matter. The MS Society recommended that I contact Aircharitynetwork.com and that was my ticket! Literally, it was my ticket! Through Air Charity Network, I reached Mercy Medical Airlift (MMA). MMA answered my request for assistance in a matter of hours. From the beginning, I felt their sense of urgency and drive to make this trip possible for me. I worked closely with Cathy Kelly, who was kind and caring. She walked me through every step and gave me the wonderful news that I would be flying on a commercial flight to my destination. At a time when life is looking a little too short, and the problems are seemingly insurmountable, it isn't easy to remain positive and hopeful. MMA doesn't let you worry. They assured me the impossible was possible, and because of the people at Mercy Medical Airlift, I did arrive on time for my scheduled appointment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I don't know anyone who does it better! I was given every consideration. I felt the their genuine concern about getting me to Rochester. They were very gracious to my patient advocate and care giver, who was accompanying me on this journey. Because of the short time in which MMA had to make this all possible, I realized that MMA staff had much to do in a matter of days. I will be eternally grateful for their incredible efforts, support, and encouragement during one of the most difficult times of my life. Kudos, Mercy Medical Airlift! Your compassion lifts the wings of every plane flying patients to much needed diagnostics and treatment on MMA flights! Thank you so very much!

It all started with a phone call Spring 2012 from my younger brother; a retired US Army Reserve NCO (Veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom) living in San Antonio Texas. He told me he was in need of a kidney transplant. He was informed by his doctors that it was time to contact his family and friends to see if anyone was willing to consider being a donor. It involved getting a blood test to see if I was match. Not only did I feel compelled to help my brother but he is a Veteran. I am married to a Veteran, my father and father in-law are both Veterans. I wanted to be tested to see if I would be a match. Within a week a blood kit was mailed to me at my home in Northern Virginia. Long story short, after much blood work/labs/MRI's and x-rays, it was determined that I was an identical match to my brother. It couldn’t get any better than that. The goal now was for me to donate my kidney to him before he would go on dialysis.
I am a wife of a Retired Air Force Colonel of 27 years. He is a Veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We have been blessed with six beautiful children. Donating a kidney was not just my decision, it was a family decision. After much discussion with my team of doctors here in Virginia and San Antonio, lots of prayers and family support, it was decided that the transplant would take place on August 7, 2012. I needed to be in San Antonio by August 2nd, to meet my transplant surgeons for the first time. August 2nd also happened to be my triplets 16th Birthday. The unselfishness and strong love our family has for each other, made it possible for me to leave home and be with my brother in Texas for the next three weeks. It was decided that after the transplant surgery, I would heal alongside my brother in my sister’s home in Texas. This made it possible for both of our care to be maintained by our local Texas family. (Thanks Nadine, Mom and US Army Reserve Retired Chief Warrant Officer AKA Daddy.)
My transportation to San Antonio was not covered by my brother’s insurance or by the Transplant Center. Not to mention, I needed to be able to fly an escort to help care for me while I was in Texas healing and then to escort me back home.
My husband contacted American Airlines Director of Veterans Initiatives and asked if there was any kind of flight assistance for situations like ours. Within "minutes" we were connected to Air Compassion for Veterans. We told them our situation and within days my son (escort) and I were booked on a flight with American Airlines courtesy of Air Compassion for Veterans. But it did not stop there. When my son and I arrived at the airport, we were treated with such kind, warm and friendly American Airline employees. It is as if they already knew my story. They made sure that my son and I were safe and all of our needs were met.
Upon departing from Texas, American Airlines offered me wheel chair assistance and priority seating. If it wasn't for the Air Compassion for Veteran assistance, I am not so sure I would have been able to travel so quickly to Texas to donate my kidney to my brother. I cannot THANK YOU all enough for being there when we needed you the most. You are forever in our hearts. We are going on 8 months post op now. When people ask how we are doing, I still beam with pride when I tell them my brother and I are doing well and how American Airlines and the great people of Air Compassion for Veterans made this all possible.
From the bottom of our hearts, this military family SALUTES YOU!
God Bless you, our troops and America!

I am a volunteer at Mercy Medical Airlift. I personally think that this is a well run organization, that keeps the needs and interests of the people it serves first. MMA has helped save lives, and given people a second chance that did not think they would get one. I can tell that each and every one of the staff and volunteers genuinely care about the organization, and the mission statement is one that they strive to reach every single day. Keep up the great work.

I am a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a program of Mercy Medical Airlift. This organization does great work matching qualified pilots with patients needing transportation to distant specialized medical treatment. Pilots volunteer their time, airplanes, and operating expenses. This makes the organization very efficient and effective. Angel Flight coordinates the logistics of flights that often require three separate flights to reach more distant locations.

A mother writes: "I wanted to express my gratitude for all of your organization's efforts in providing a
seamless experience from beginning to end. Last month my seven-year-old son, Sam and I traveled to
Boston Children's Hospital for his fifth surgery...Thank you so much for providing us
with a memorable
experience that brought a huge smile to my son's face."
This kind note from a grateful mom expresses precisely why Mercy Medical Airlift exists and why I am
so proud to participate enthusiastically as a Volunteer Pilot. By eliminating transportation barriers, MMA
enables thousands of patients each month to receive the best possible medical care, evaluation, and
treatment that would otherwise be unavailable.

Recently, a gentleman that had requested air transportation for his brother wrote the following note to MMA. "Dear MMA, You lifted my brother up and flew him home so he might go home to God from here". It was a simple expression of appreciation for the air transportation MMA provided but it captured the essence of what MMA is all about; providing caring and timely transportation for those in need. The gratitude expressed by this gentleman best illustrates the results and outcomes of MMA's efforts each day in providing patients and family members the transportation needed for each unique case. As a Board member, I am privileged to witness this compassionate service to hundreds of patients each month.

My son Peter participated in a clinical trial in Palo Alto, CA. We live in Pennsylvania and the trial required monthly visits for 18 months, so travel costs added up quickly. Mercy Medical provided many flights for us. They were kind to deal with and accomodated our schedule as best they could. We will always be grateful for the assistance MMA provided our family. Thank you!

Yes I'm glad to write a brief review for MMA. As a volunteer I had the privrlege of assisting on an actual flight. I sat with the person needing special surgery in another state that could possibly restore the patients ability to walk. It was my joy to reassure him he had the very best care possible and MMA was part of the process; we were part of his teem and his success was the reason we [MMA] do what we do. His fears subsided and we enjoyed the rest of the flight together. After landing, the personal touch he received from the pilot was notably comforting to him. As MMA seeks to help those in real need, I believe they meet a very significant part in setting the stage for what follows for the patients they minister to.
