My name is Angela Oakes, I am a certified peer support specialist, a mother, a wife, a volleyball player and coach, I also suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder and Bi-Polar Disorder. I have volunteered with the Mental Health Association in the last 4 years. I was involved in the Compeer Program, I was one of the their first Ambassador's. I have shared my story of struggling with a brain disorder to various audiences. My experience with the Mental Health Association has changed my life forever and I am so grateful I found this organization. The employee's of MHA are incredibly special to me, from the beginning they encouraged me and I began to feel like I was important and special. They helped me believe I was brave and courageous and had alot to offer the world by sharing my story. My most recent volunteer experience with MHA was valuable and rewarding because my 18 year old son "Gavin" was also involved. We along with other Ambassador's of MHA were part of a video campaign to reduce stigma around mental illness. All of my participation with MHA has been tremendously gratifying! This organization is passionate and dedicated to their mission!! A special thank you to Andrea Towner for her commitment and hard work in the "Mental Health Matters, It's Time To Talk" video campain! Also, thank you to Ellis Fields who manages a great organization. Love you guys and keep up the good work!
