Creating tomorrow's abortion providers and pro-choice physicians.

Our reform efforts have resulted in curriculum changes at nearly 100 medical schools. 31% of physician alumni provide abortions. 63% of providing alumni perform 2nd trimester abortions.

The reproductive health externship funding program (rhe) provided financial support to 112 medical students and residents who sought opportunities not available in the medical schools and residency programs for first-hand abortion training. Continuing analysis of the program shows a statistically significant increase in the participants' knowledge of family planning and intention to provide abortion as a result of their externship experience.

226 medical students and residents attended our msfc's conference on family planning, the premier conference for medical students and residents interested in family planning. After the conference we found that the number of students who said they would probably or definitely provide abortion services increased by 18% when compared to responses to the same question asked before the survey.

the student organizing program supported over 1,200 educational events on 174 medical school campuses. The events included lectures, panel discussions, and film screenings on the topics of abortion and contraception. Additionally, 40% of our chapters are engaged in or are planning to engage in projects to reform their schools' official curriculum to include more information about reproductive health and abortion.

outreach and communication and all other program services and miscellaneous income.

Reviews for Medical Students for Choice

Rating: 5 stars

Med Students for Choice is a fantastic organization! As a medical student in the south, they have helped me gain access to training and introduced me to inspiring people I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to do. They have supported me and other members in our chapter in attending their National and Regional Conferences, and given us tremendous generosity, support, and encouragement in our chapter's programming. Through Med Students for Choice we have had the opportunity to access a community of providers that gives us the inspiration and confidence to continue to be advocates for choice and demand a quality reproductive health education.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Within the community of medical students who have a commitment to family planning, abortion access, and reproductive health, and the patients we are able to better counsel and serve because of Med Students for Choice.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase their funding! So they could continue to assist their growing student base.

MS4C has been an amazing organization that has encouraged to follow my values in my career. I'm currently a 3rd year medical student at the University of Saskatchewan and sometimes school can be overwhelming and debilitating. MS4C, with their conferences, enlightening newsletters, and generous funding, has enabled to me to remember why I went into medicine in the first place. It is an also an amazing organization for standing up for what it believes in and having the guts to take on naysayers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

getting generous funding for conferences.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not want to change a lot. Because it is a North American organization, having satellites in both United States and Canada, I may suggest more Canadian content for myself and other Canadians.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting new people that share the same core values as me.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. They were also passionate about MS4C's cause.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach out and influence the lives of women worldwide. There would be contraception and education available in all countries, leading to wanted pregnancies and stable families.

Ways to make it better...

they could offer small stipends for individuals interested in related aspects to sexual health. For their scholarship, I was unable to secure 2 weeks of termination exposure; however, I was spending 3 weeks in sexual health clinics.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

society antagonism or apathy. There are individuals and organizations that are inherently against termination access and sexual education. This limits popular and political support to the organization.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'm glad I had the opportunity to get involved with this group. I've learned so much and have solidified the values and beliefs I have, particularly in my approach to medicine.
