MEDIA ISLAND INTERNATIONAL DTD 0391 Reviews
Media Island has supported countless other projects through fiscal sponsorships, providing space, and by promoting a networking philosophy of supporting existing efforts rather than only our own. The larger issue of media control by corporations affects most other issues. Media Island has tried to tie under-reporting of issues to the conflicts of interest underlying media ownership and interlocking directorships.
Media Island operates a networking space and community alternative library in downtown Olympia Washington. Locally our location serves as a nexus for community organizations to mingle, have meetings and work parties. We also run a low power fm licensed radio station which broadcasts as KOWA 106.5. While operating the networking center and radio station we also work on national issues and international issues through our website, our fiscal sponsorships and conferences. Currently we are working on funding a human rights accompanier to Honduras, supporting Black Mesa Indigenous Resistance, are a partner with national and local groups on Latin American Solidarity issues and immigrant rights issues, work on front line indigenous support, environmental causes and social justice activities.
