I am also fortunate to be a Market on Meals volunteer with Meals on Wheels. All the staff at Meals on Wheels go above and beyond to make sure the people they serve are treated with dignity and respect. The personal connection is such an important part of their mission. Grocery shopping for my client is always a highlight of my week. I love doing this and am so happy to be a small part of a great organization!

I have volunteered in the Carbon county area MOW program for a while and recently moved into Allentown-Lehigh County..I was intriqued by the new program called "Market on Wheels"a thinking out of the box food delivery concept very needed by many in the area...I am happy to report not only am I enjoying volunteering and the clients we serve, BUT the staff and coordinator of the program have nothing BUT the best interests of our clients at heart regarding all decisions....A true joy for me getting back WAY MORE than I give...Thank you MOW....Jeffrey L. Minnich Sr.

I truly enjoy being a volunteer in the MoW grocery-shopping program. I LOVE grocery shopping, and to be able to do it for someone who can not is a privilege. We volunteers get as much out of volunteering as the folks we help. And the fact that the MoW staff is helpful, professional and gracious is just the icing on the cake!!

Before i retired, I was a Home Care provider for local hospital. My patients always asked that I not come when they were expecting their meals, because they enjoyed the visit from the volunteer as much as the food. It was almost a universal request. Once I retired, I decided to volunteer for MOW, and actually am now part of Market on Wheels, a spin-off of MOW. Volunteers shop for people who can still cook, but for whatever reason, cannot shop. It costs them $5, and I have been doing this for several weeks now, and love it. And "my" lady is so happy, because she has no one to shop for her while she is recovering from surgery. MOW is a very organized organization - all my questions were answered thoroughly at orientation for Market on Wheels, and the coordinator is just a phone call away. Handling (and spending) someone else's money is a big responsibility, but with the training and assistance, I feel comfortable. And since I love food-shopping, it is a win-win!

Meals on Wheels not only provides meals to those individuals who can't provide a nutritious meal for themselves, but they also provide a friendly faces and conversations to individuals who may not have the opportunity to be out and about interacting with others. They get to know their clients and interact with them as a friend. They area also there to notify someone in the event there is an issue or the client is just not acting or feeling as they always do. These volunteers have a big heart and provide a great service and interaction to their clients.

MOW serves a greater need than simply delivering meals. Yes, that is very important. But even more, the delivery person may be the only personal contact the client has that day. Many of the clients live by themselves and don't have that much contact outside of their immediate surroundings. So, MOW provides both nourishment for the body and the soul.

This is such a rewarding organization to volunteer for! The folks we visit are so happy to see a visitor and a hot meal. Every trip I take is time well spent. Meals on Wheels as an organization is so thoughtful and organized - it really makes helping a pleasure.

Great organization, dedicated volunteers, and you can see your efforts are appreciated each and every time you deliver meals. It is a pleasure to be able to help the community and its members so directly.

My story began with my mother-in-law, who received Meals on Wheels daily. When we would visit her, she would be so excited and tell us about her visitor that day and the great food she received. The visit and food delivery was definitely the highlight of her day. One funny story was that my husband would write her bills and saw the MOW bill was due. She kept insisting that she paid it but her checkbook did not show a missing check. Hence he called the office and was told that she did pay her bill and sent in excess of $100 in cash to the office via mail. When my father retired, he decided to keep busy and become a volunteer delivering meals on a daily basis. Not only does it keep him active, but he is so proud of his accomplishments and loves the wonderful MOW family! The story goes on as I was between jobs and decided to volunteer in the MOW office and truly found how how dedicated and wonderful the staff really is. Not only does their job entail keeping the program running on a daily basis, but the many fundraisers which are necessary due to monetary constraints. I found another permanent job in the Lehigh County area and was very happy to begin a Corporate volunteer delivery program. We now have 2 teams that deliver twice/week. So while I have been and am involved in the many faucets of Meals on Wheels, I am happy to say that it is a wonderful and rewarding experience!
