To provide hot, nutritious meals and other nutritional foods, and a daily safety check to men and women who are elderly, homebound, disabled, frail, or at risk. Our program enables the elderly and disabled to remain in their own homes as long as possible.

We held our annual fundraising banquet in October 2010 to help offset a $200,000 budget cut we are facing. We hope to raise more money in the near future in order to keep Seniors off our waiting list and feed more Seniors in more parts of Texas.

Target demographics:

Senior Citizens or Low-income Seniors, or disabled individuals East Texas counties: Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood.

Meals on Wheels Home Delivery: Senior Citizens or disabled individuals may qualify to have a nutritionally balanced lunch delivered each weekday to their home. All meals meet RDA requirements and are prepared fresh daily. A small paid delivery staff and a core group of community volunteers deliver the meals each day. Liquid Supplemental Nutrition Program(The Ensure Program): Meals on Wheels clients who have been advised by their physician to enhance their diets with supplemental drinks or cannot eat solid foods, may purchase these at a significant discount. A current prescription is required, and the supplement must be picked up at a Meals on Wheels site. In some cases, delivery is available.

I am always amazed by the level of energy and excitement I see when I walk in the Doors of Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. My wife and I also volunteer to deliver meals to a few of the 3,500 clients who receive a meal from our service every day, and are truly blessed that we get to share in the joy and comfort those folks receive when they are greeted by the volunteer drivers delivering a nutritious meal and encouragement to their doorstep daily. This is an organization that has met fiscal challenges head on, working on creative ways to raise funding, from using their kitchens and expert staff to prepare meals for catered events throughout the area to looking at every possible means to make your dollars stretch farther and farther every year. Truly a wonderful organization and group of people.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

serving the needs of our community

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

work to help us be able to provide more services to our clients.

I am proud to say that I am a 2 year board member of the Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. located in Tyler, Texas. This ministry serves 3,500 nutritious hot meals to senior citizens and disabled citizens in a five county area in East Texas. The staff and volunteers are absolutely dedicated to their clients. Serving on the finance committee for Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. has opened my eyes to the stressful financial challenges we face every year. Slashed governmental budgets have really taken a toll on finances and we are doing everything we possibly can to not cut services to our clients!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Board of Director's meetings and comments from clients on how much they appreciate the meals and the fantastic volunteers who deliver their meals!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Contribute as much money to this organization as I possibly could to build up an endowment so the organzation will not have to depend on government programs to provide hot nutritioius meals to the senior and disabled citizens who need them the most!
