"Who is my neighbor?", someone once asked Jesus. I've had the opportunity to find that answer -- each time I've headed out as a fill-in driver, staring at a Mapsco printout of an area just outside the neighborhood I'm familiar with, and watching the clock. The main office staff has never lost patience with me when I've called for directions. The office also faithfully reminds me of the opportunity to serve each summer, when it's vacation time and I leave my classroom. I started this journey about 15 years ago. I continued it as a very expectant first-time mother; shared these memories when I brought my godchildren along; and expanded it to my younger son -- who still asks when we're going to get to go visit the grandmas and the grandpas again. This journey has nourished us all. Thank you.

the hands-on chance to help, in a simple way.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

solicit participation with a campaign as large as United Way's annual fundraiser. But I think that would backfire. This is a grassroots deal.

Everything about Meals on Wheels has been an extremely positive experience, and I feel privileged to be able to be part of such an efficiently-organized and smoothly-functioning organization. From the training day to the site meal pickups, professionalism and dedication are clearly evident. I come home feeling very blessed myself every time I am called upon to subsitute drive a route and take meals to clients. Their appreciation is heartfelt.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being able to have firsthand contact with people who are in real need of healthy, regular meals and who are sincerely grateful for my bringing them one.

MOW has allowed me to participate in a very soul satisfying experience. The service without a doubt is a lifesaver for those that receive the meals and daily contact. However for me it's a simple commitment to keep me focused on my faith. Serving reiterates the message to me that we are here to give and not take. The mechanics of MOW is very well organized. It is nice to be met with a smile and a helping hand at the pick-up sites. Daily thousands in the DFW metroplex are delivered a meal and warm greeting - what a way to spread hope.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

enthusiastically dedicated.

Delivering meals to the people on my route has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have always wanted to volunteer for Meals on Wheels (MOW)of Tarrant County, but did not have the availability to do so until this year. The staff at MOW are very well organized and they care deeply about their clients and the volunteers. If you want to provide a valuable service to your community while getting to know wonderful people, I highly recommend you volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Getting to know the people on my route. I enjoy talking with them when I deliver their meal and seeing how they are doing. They are so appreciative of what we do for them. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to help them.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very well organized and dedicated to their job. The orientation meeting was informative and very well run. I am amazed at how well organized the staff is in getting the food prepared and delivered to the local pick up destinations for delivery.

I have been involved with Meals on Wheels for many years helping with their direct mail fund raising efforts. I work with many non profits in the area, but Meals on Wheels is my personal favorite. It is a very professional organization that performs a service which is greatly needed in the community. The people working for MOW are dedicated and have a very strong belief in what they do as well as an honest desire to help!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Reach out to more people in need of a warm meal!

I know I am helping my clients get a good healthy meal AND being able to check up on them when I deliver the noon meal. They are always happy to see me coming too.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the flexibility I have as there are many volunteers willing to step in my place if I have an emergency or other plans. If I am not able to do the job, my husband will deliver the meals for me. What a deal!

I work with Meals on Wheels, Inc of Tarrant County once a week in a local distribution center and I also have a route one day a week, as do many other volunteers that I talk with. I've found both jobs rewarding. The people in the main distribution center do an excellent job of getting the meals exact to the needed counts, which makes our job easy. I talk with the drivers as they pick up their meals and see the goodness in their hearts. Many have done this for years and enjoy every minute of it. They know their people very well and comment when they're not on the list. I also enjoy talking with the drivers that do the same route that I do on another day. They have enhanced my knowledge of many of the customers on my route, which has been beneficial. The customers I deliver to are always so happy to see me and appreciative of their meals. They always greet me with a smile and sometimes a story. Some need a hug every once in awhile, which I am happy to give and receive back from them. I find that the short 1 - 2 hours a day, twice a week spent on this worthwhile cause is a blessing to me and I hope to do this for a very long time.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing customer satisfaction, due to the choice and quality of the meals and the excellent management of the program. That includes testing food temperatures from packaging to the customer door

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the good feeling of knowing your customers have a hot, healthy meal daily and someone to talk to for a few minutes each day.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

courteous, loving and really enjoy doing their jobs

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do a lot more outreach to those in need, both people and pets.

After 20 + years of delivering meals in Fort Worth, it is still gratifying to help the elderly live independent lives in their own homes.Seeing some clients in dire physical and financial situations respond to the question "how are you today" with a big smile (few teeth) and " I am blessed "gives me perspective in life. And where else can I go and be referred to as youg man! My husband and I had been delivering meals for nearly 25 years. My husband was also on the board. While my husband passed last year, I am still delivering after a short gap after he died. I think they do a lot of good and obviously We thought a lot of the orgination since we have delivered for so many years. We have gone through three drop off staions and all havae been excellent. I have delivered for over 3 years now and can't think of a better ran and mor caring organization. It is an honor to serve with the countless number of volunteers and workers of Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing those who cannot prepare their own meals be taken care of so that they can remain at home instead of in a nursing home. We help people staying independent and give them dignity!
