Life changing! I am a Rotarian and this group really impresses me! Great experience! What an outstanding organization that supports the poor in rural Guatemala in their attempts to get a start economically. Micro-finance at it's best with Mayan Families! It's just superb. Because they work directly with the Mayans in Guatemala they can help in the right ways. Super work ethic! Tireless in their pursuit, even in the rainy seasons storms! I have volunteered with them on two service trips. Hard work and Fun!

I installed fuel efficient stoves, set up water filters and more with Mayan Families. Please help this group help more people in Guatemala. They walk the talk like no one else! Very efficient group too! I like really cheap people who make a dime stretch as far as possible and Mayan Families does that and more. Other groups are lazy, not Mayan Families. The amount of work they do is staggering! Their standards are some of the highest I have seen and they are so friendly and welcoming to volunteer with!

Excellent volunteer opportunity! We did so much work and I really felt like I made a difference! I will come back again and again! This is the hardest working group I have ever volunteered for! Amazing people and staff! They make you feel so welcome! I was also working with Mayan Families during the storms and they were simply amazing! I most highly recommend this wonderful Non Political and Non Religious Group!

I volunteered with Mayan Families on a social work, study abroad trip. My summer with them was amazing. They help the community in so many areas and the entire community is incredibly appreciative of everything they do.

Mayan Families is a great organization. I was part of a church group that volunteered to build a home for a displaced family. Mayan Families was very effective in utilizing our church's monies and our man power to get a family a home. The leaders are well connected in the community and well respected. They were a great organization to volunteer for and I feel like my time and money were well spent to impact others lives.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing how this work impacts someone's life and by seeing how similar work by others has impacted other local families lives.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Help to provide them more resources to help more of the local people.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
It was a very humbling experience that helps put perspective on what is really important in life.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
I felt proud to have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time that will make someone's life better.
I was a co-sponsor/group leader of a group of 15 from Lindbergh High School and the Crestwood Sunset Hills Rotary Club. While in Guatemala we were hosted, assisted, and lovingly attended to 24/7 by the staff of Mayan Families Organization. They arranged for us to have safe and clean experiences regarding our housing, dining, transportation, and work experiences. We had need of medical help and they were instantaneously able to provide us the attention needed. The Mayan Families Staff trained us and accompanied us to help with the installation of 30 stoves, roofing and finishing a home, serving meals to seniors, providing clothing and shoes to a local village, and 5 pre-schools where we assisted in basic lessons in Spanish. Although we fundraised and were able to bring 15 suitcases of clothing, shoes, and school supplies and purchase 15 stoves as well as 4 pre-school sponsorships we were given far more back from the staff of Mayan Families and the wonderful citizens in Guatemala. I can't begin to express how much we appreciated developing positive working relationships with the extremely gifted staff including stove experts, pre-school experts, drivers, distribution experts and all the other amazing angels of service working for Mayan Families. I would highly recommend any family, church, or school group making a commitment to develop a partnership with Mayan Families Organization. They work endless hours to sustain the outstanding service and integrity they represent in their communities. I've had the good fortune to work with many charitable associations worldwide, however I've never worked with a staff and program as outstanding and inspirational as the Mayan Families Organization. I'm sure I'll fail to mention everyone but some of our outstanding staff trainers and partners included Sharon, Dwight, Gloria, Julio, Rachel, Elizabeth, Laura, Beth, Juan, Juan-Carlos, Charlie, Eric, Augustine, Roberto, Eddie, and many more.

I was a photography volunteer for the Mayan Families for a week and went with Carmen to visit the Families in San Jorge and Tiera Linda. Carmen was amazing and was able to find out the families needs such as matress, food, and if their homes needed to be fixed. My experience with her was amazing and learned a lot from her and about the families.

Volunteered at Mayan Families for 3 weeks and the experience was incredible, they do fantastic work that reaches not only many communities but also many facets within those communities. For me a traveler who has seen so much the ability to contribute face to face with Mayan people who have seen and experienced so much throughout their history both over hundreds of years and the last decades provided me with great purpose and them with a helping set of hands.

It was fun meeting the girl we sponsor. I am seven years old and it was a great experience because got to eat lunch, color and draw, and have fun in the playground at Mayan Families. I will always remember it and I even have a picture of the girl we sponsor in our kitchen. I really want to go back and help Mayan Families in their schools. It was so special to go there! I think it's really great that Mayan Families helps dogs, too.
