I was a photography volunteer for the Mayan Families for a week and went with Carmen to visit the Families in San Jorge and Tiera Linda. Carmen was amazing and was able to find out the families needs such as matress, food, and if their homes needed to be fixed. My experience with her was amazing and learned a lot from her and about the families.

Volunteered at Mayan Families for 3 weeks and the experience was incredible, they do fantastic work that reaches not only many communities but also many facets within those communities. For me a traveler who has seen so much the ability to contribute face to face with Mayan people who have seen and experienced so much throughout their history both over hundreds of years and the last decades provided me with great purpose and them with a helping set of hands.

It was fun meeting the girl we sponsor. I am seven years old and it was a great experience because got to eat lunch, color and draw, and have fun in the playground at Mayan Families. I will always remember it and I even have a picture of the girl we sponsor in our kitchen. I really want to go back and help Mayan Families in their schools. It was so special to go there! I think it's really great that Mayan Families helps dogs, too.

I'm nine years old and I visited the girl our family sponsors in Pana. during our winter break. I had an opportunity to have fun with someone I didn't know but I got to know a lot better. It was really neat that I was able to do this because we're both in the same grade and I was able to understand how her family lives and what she likes to play with. I saw lots of other children at Mayan Families. I could see it was a very special place.

We are an adoptive family. Both our children were born in Guatemala. We have wanted to give back in some way to our children's homeland. We have found such a perfect fit for our family with Mayan Families. It is a remarkably well-run organization that has provided not only educational opportunities for scores of Mayan Guatemalans but also the basic necessities that we so often take for granted in this country. Their reach in the indigenous community, their respect and cpmpassion are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Mayan Families is a gift to so many and we are grateful.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
helping to provide a public school education to a student.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I can not think of any changes that need to be made.

I visited Mayan Families last month in Panajachel with a small church group, to help build a house. The staff were wonderful, hard-working, and very helpful. They seemed to know the names of everyone in the town, and were received with smiles everywhere. The work Mayan Families is doing is with pre-school; many nutrition programs for clients from babies to the elderly; student sponsorship from elementary thru university; and anything else the clients need. I had no idea this level of poverty and need existed in the Western Hemisphere outside of Haiti & Dominican Republic. I had no idea this level of malnutrition & growth stunting still existed - anywhere I feel tall standing next to adults (I am 5'3") I know there are problems; and many of the street vendors and adults I met were less than 4' tall.

Last month, our family visited Mayan Families in Pana. We had the chance to see the remarkable work this team of dedicated staff takes on every day. We're in awe of the involvement, the extensive programs, the enormous difference this organization is making in the lives of so many indigenous Maya in the area. Our family was honored to have the chance to meet and have lunch with the student we sponsor and her mother. The time we had together, talking, laughing and learning about one another, had a profound impact on our family, especially our children. On the car ride back to our hotel we were already planning our next visit to Mayan Families! What a privilege it was for us to spend time with the people at Mayan Families, a truly extraordinary non-profit.

My experience with Mayan Families was incredible. I recently visited Panajachel with UM Rotaract to work with the NGO. Our achievement of building 21 stoves in 3 days was only made possible thanks to the great organization of Mayan Families. They were welcoming, friendly, and extremely passionate about the work they were doing.

14 SAIT Polytechnic Architectural and electrical students plus 4 instructors just returned from Panajachel, working with Mayan Families for the last two weeks. The work that Mayan Families is involved with was a perfect match for what our students had to offer. It gave our students an opportunity to put their educational skills to work in the field and made many of them realize for the firs time, that they can influence change, one concrete block at a time. Mayan Families was most accommodating to all of our needs, they provided interesting guest speakers, educational tours of the villages that they work with day to day. This is a wonderful organisation doing very meaningful work and we were lucky to be part of this for two weeks.

My husband and I just returned from our second trip to Pana and to work with Mayan Families. It is such a pleasure to know that our donations are being used so wisely to help the people of Pana. Dwight and Sharon and the whole team are outstanding. They truly care for the people they serve and it shows every day. I am very impressed that they take time to listen and dig deeper into a situation, in order to provide what the family needs - which is not always whay the family requests. While on this trip we took part in the experiment to build a house in one week! What a blast! Yes, we did it, and loved every minute. The workers hired to run the job by Mayan families were patient and a joy to work with. By the end of the week most of us knew many words for construction - not only Spanish - but in Katchequel as well - and the workers were eager to learn the corresponding English words. We also got to meet the children we sponsor and enjoy lunch with them at a local restaurant. Not many non-profits make this happen. What a gift to be able to spend time encouraging them and really learning their needs. We cannot wait to go back.

I absolutely fell in love with Mayan Families. I recently have returned from a trip to Panajachel, where we collaborated with them. Hearing about all the different projects they do is astounding, and it was amazing to help out with them. Specifically, we aided with the stove building and visited some of the pre-schools. I am very, very impressed with the dedication and the passion Dwight and Sharon put into their work, as well as all the volunteers and workers with Mayan Families. This NGO really is making a huge difference in the area and I am flattered to have worked with them.
