Matthew's Crossing Food Bank is a wonderful organization with dedicated volunteers, employees, and donors. I have watched this organization grow in not only the number of people it serves each year, but also in the services that it provides fulfill its mission of feeding the hungry.

I volunteered for this non-profit shortly after moving to Arizona, and was very impressed by the operation. I have volunteered for many non-profit organizations, and was struck by how hard every worked to make the Matthews Crossing food bank a success for their community. I was also surprised by the variety of people in need of the food bank services. People from every race, age, and socioeconomic background came to fufill a basic necessity for their families. I am still proud to contribute through food donations and would love to volunteer for them again.

Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
like them to expand their hours and operations to help as many people as possible. I especially want to see the upcoming Kidz Cafe become a reality. The kids will be provided with a healthy meal, tutoring and a safe, positive place to go after school.
Matthews Crossing began just a few years ago with an idea by an Episcopal Priest. It has since become independent from that church and has grown significantly with an all volunteer staff, except the Executive Director. It is the only food bank in Chandler, AZ that is open five days each week, and now it is open late hours also. They are now working to open a Kid's Cafe for dinner for students who receive subsidized breakfast and lunch at school. I was involved in their move from the church to rented space. We also donate to their food, shampoo, soap, etc. supplies.

hope that it canrealize its full mission. Matthews Crossing is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to not only serve the needy as a food bank, but also (1) operate a Kid's Cafe (as described above), (2) operate a health clinic where those who need can receive health and child care counseling and receive innoculations, and (3) function as a place where those looking for work can receive job training, application and resume help, and counseling for dressing and participating in interviews.
