Maryland New Directions is constantly adapting and improving their program to better serve the needs of their clients. It has been a pleasure to take part in their Connection Fridays and Mock Interview events; each time I meet with their clients it is apparent how much training and time the staff devotes to give these participants the best possible chance to find new employment. From their assistance with interview clothing and resume writing workshops to their partnerships with other community resources, Maryland New Directions is a great organization that Baltimore should be proud to have!

I am so very proud to volunteer for Maryland New Directions (MND). I have worked with MND clients helping to develop resumes and practicing interviewing skills, and look forward to sharing my career story at a Connections Friday in May. I cannot say enough about this well-managed, energetic and meaningful non-profit serving clients in Baltimore. MND is meeting a need and providing hope to those who wish to return to work and improve their life overall. Thank you MND!

I found out about Maryland New Directions recently when I was invited to speak at a Connections Friday event. The experience was so moving that I asked many others from my business network to share their stories at future events. Also I have joined the fundraising committee to help the organization reach its short term goals. I would encourage anyone interested in making a difference in people's lives to check out Maryland New Directions and the many ways to volunteer.

I have been a volunteer with Maryland New Directions (MND) for several years for both their Mock Interview Program and Connections Friday Program. Both unique programs are extremely helpful to the clients who wish to seek job opportunities, and you can feel, see, and hear the enthusiasm from the clients as they participate. I am grateful to have a job I love, and my goal for volunteering is to help people find a job they love, or give them the skills that help put them in the right direction. I am always impressed with the staff and professionals at MND. They are passionate about what they do. I wish I could do more for the organization. Helping people find meaningful work is the noblest of professions.

Making such a difference in each client's life results in that client PAYING IT FORWARD and making a difference in someone else's life.

Volunteering at MND is a rewarding experience for so many reasons. I like what they stand for. At MND, they believe in empowering people to change their own lives. Through resume writing workshops, mock interviews and informational programs, they make sure that clients are well positioned to find and take advantage of new job opportunities. As a result they are strengthening the local economy in Maryland. I am inspired whenever I connect with the staff at MND. They are doing great work.

It was a great experiance. I spoke to about 30 people. Everyone was excited and happy to hear what we had to say. Afterwards I was able to meet everyone one on one and get to know them. I am in contact with 4 of them and working with them to create a budget and help them build a savings. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Why I Serve Maryland New Directions: Four years ago, I was invited by MND’s founder to volunteer my real estate expertise in relocating MND to larger and more functional offices to accommodate their growing Career Focus program. In the course of that six month project, I became a committed supporter of the transformative work that I personally saw the MND staff, volunteers and the program participants achieve together. I joined the Board of Directors three years ago and regularly engage with Career Focus graduates during their mock interviews. Seeing the determination and confidence of the graduates keeps me energized to carry the MND story to prospective donors and employers throughout the Baltimore area in my role as head of the Development Committee.

As I start my fourth year on MND’s board, here’s what keeps me energized, involved and always looking for ways to do more: 1) our clients; 2) our staff & volunteers; and 3) our “home grown” Executive Director.
At our recent 39th anniversary celebration, one of this year’s crop of client’s, Johnny DeQuair spoke eloquently about his experience under MND’s guidance to persevere through difficult personal issues & unemployment, discover his passion and create a new & successful future. I see these client successes year after year after year and know that MND’s signature “Career Focus” program really works and is making a difference in the lives of the clients we serve.
Our staff and volunteers believe in MND’s mission. Their belief, their pride for their work with others, their caring and their commitment – all shine brightly in the life & career transitions they facilitate daily.
Nurtured by MND’s founder’s, ED, Grace Lee has grown and emerged with the vision, the passion, the “chutzpah” and the leadership to drive MND’s continuing success. It is her strength of character that guides MND in every way.
