Issues: Animals

Location: 456 Ninth St #26 Hoboken NJ 07030 USA

Mission: Manes & Tails Organization is a Domestic 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation that was duly filed in accordance with New Jersey State Law on June 22, 2004. The entity identification number is EIN: 90-0182985. Our Corporation number is 0400061154. As a charitable organization designed to support and promote equid welfare, we: * rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, and re-home the most commonly breeds of horses sent to slaughter in the United States - Thoroughbreds, Quarterhorses, and Standardbreds. * actively participate in the eradication of equid slaughter in the United States through advocacy, education and dissemination of information. * participate in breed conservancy of endangered equines such as the Akhal-Teke, Fell pony, and Shire horse.
Results: We spend a limited amount of time fundraising so as not to violate the IRS rules for fundraising.
Target demographics: We seek advanced riders in Dressage, over the age of 21 to free lease our horses to. When shown, the horses are always in the Ribbons.
Direct beneficiaries per year: One beneficiary supports our Thoroughbred Mare "Willow" and we are very grateful.
Geographic areas served: NY TriState Area
Programs: We had 'Howling Ridge Radio' however, the hosts became too busy to participate in the program. All episodes are archived on the Manes and Tails web site. Additionally, we would like to create a National Stud for Thoroughbred horses. These horses are now so inbred that there will not be another Triple Crown Champion in our lifetime unless we conserve the breed by infusing it with an Arabian stud. Two Arabians, the Godolphon and Darley, as well as the Byerly Turk were the foundations of the Thoroughbred breed. Putting the Arabian back into the bloodline will yield healthier, stronger Thoroughbred horses. Thoroughbreds are only 97% pure,

Manes and Tails has been a dedicated rescuer and advocate for horse welfare. Elle has worked to help all animals though focusing on horses since there are so few protections for them and the need is so great.

Thank you Elle and Manes and Tails for your diligence in this mission.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the efforts to make people aware of the need.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would not make changes but would recommend them.

Elle has been front and center for animal-welfare/horse-welfare for the ~4 yrs that I've worked with her and Manes&Tails. She is spot-on for regulatory and legislative efforts, and a great advisor for that. It's a rare combination that she focuses on the legal aspects of federal and state legislation AND also the practical, everyday horse welfare aspects. She's a great advisor for those who want to make a difference in horse welfare.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

M&T has provided relevant recommendations for animal welfare legislation.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

.... hope that M&T gained more funding for its efforts. That would help them do even more for animal/horse welfare.

Manes and Tails is a top notch rescue with a deeply rooted passion for rescuing horses of all ages and breeds. Manes and Tails is the epitome of integrity, making sure all donations go toward rescuing and rehabilitating horses in need. All rescued horses remain with the organization until they are fully rehabbed, which is quite impressive.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing happy and healthy rehabbed horses

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
