Ukiah is a Beautiful Malamute who was dropped off in front of my home in march 2008 weighing 60 pounds and dying from HeartWorms and Pneumonia.He made it thru those issues.Then a worse issue came up during a routine Teeth Cleaning in March of 2010.A small spot was discovered-in his mouth- and removed.The Diagnosis was Aggressive Oral Melanoma.Ukiah would need Radiation Therapy PLUS he would need to receive a DNA Based Cancer Vaccine-every 6 months for the rest of his life.I found a group called MagicBulletFund.org....and a Lady by ythe Name of Laurie Kaplan...Had it not been for Ms.Kaplan and "The MBF"-Ukiah would not be here-15 months and counting.....after this awful sentence of Death.We owe Ukiahs life to MagicBulletFund,Laurie Kaplan and her staff.

Draw more attention to this group so as to garner funds to assist more Needy animals and their humans.
This organization is the greatest to work with, the staff is very nice and great to get along with. No matter how bad or good it gets they are there with you. They work wirht you to get the funds you need amd the support you hope to get. I can't thank them enough foir what they did for my Xena. With out their help I would have lost her long ago but they gave her more time on this earth to spend with usand to be free of cancer for a little while longer. Unforuneately Xena has went to the bridge now but I know that she is there playing with the other furbabies that went before her nad some day we will be together again soon. There are happier cases thart the dogs go into remination and live a long life thnaks to them. Lori Kaplin works had to help the people in need of helping their furbabies and she doesn't give up. She has one of the kindest hearts I have ever known and to give her time to do this for people that needs the help for their dogs well what more can i say but she needs to get a medal for her life time work Thank you Lori Christensen

This is a fantastic organization. They really came through for me when my 8 year old lab, Luna, was diagnosed with cancer. I plan on donating money to this fund once I land a job. Thanks from Luna's Mom!

so helpful and friendly. They really get to know each person & dog. When I was in need of advice, I received many personal phone calls. The woman who started this organization, has a heart of gold and is a wealth of information and resources.

When Mooba, my beloved basset hound was diagnosed with Lymphoma and a mast cell tumor, I was devastated. The prognosis was grim, without Chemo he would only survive another three weeks. I wasn't prepared for that and having just been laid off of my job, unable to pay for treatment. Letting him die because of the lack of finances was unaceptable. Money or the lack of it cannot be the bridge between life and death. So, I searched the internet for help and found the Magic Bullet Fund. I feel like they literally saved him in the eleven hour. I was crying and thinking that I would have to put him down, when I recieved the life saving call from The Magic Bullet Fund Organization. The very same day we were on our way to the Clinic for treatment and within days of the first treatment I saw a huge improvement. Mooba has been under the care of the Veternarian and supported by the Magic Bullet Fund and all of the wonderful donors for nearly six months, he is in complete remission and soon will be having surgery to remove the tumors. Without the support from the Magic Bullet Fund Mooba would most likely not be here now. I am forever grateful to them.

there was a little more phone contact, especially in the beginning when you really need the reasurrance that help is on the way.

the recession.

at a time when the world is in a dark place and happiness is difficult to reach, the Magic Bullet Fund is a shining star, because no matter how bleak things are, your best friend (dog or cat) can always make you smile.

When my golden retriever Scout was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the rib, I had just lost my job and the timing was awful. I began selling personal items to pay for the surgery and then realized she would need chemotherapy--a very expensive treatment. The Magic Bullet Fund helped to raise funds for Scout's chemo treatments at a time when we needed it most. They worked with the veterinary hospital and took the pressure off us so we could spend quality time with our beloved dog. Regardless of the outcome, the MBF gave us more time with Scout.

Have a full time PR person hitting the road to all the newspapers, TV stations and national news programs to alert folks to the fundraising efforts and also the information collected about canine cancer.

Help fund canine cancer research and provide money to the pets out there who need treatment, but are euthanized because the owners don't have the money. All pets should be given a fighting chance, and the MBF helps to do that.
Ways to make it better...
I paid more attention to the requirements of what I needed to do to help. I also think phone calls work better than email for this group.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
small staff, difficulties raising money in an economy where people are holding on to their money tighter, and the perceptions that pets are simple chattel.
One thing I'd also say is that...
You need to work with this group. You don't just accept the donation and disappear. It might be a good idea to have recipients volunteer a bit of time after all is said and done.

My dog Wendell has cancer and the MBF help me raise the money for Wendell's treatment. In addition to the help with fundraising ( and they really know how to help organize that!) they have a support group that is invaluable. I am so happy t have found the MBF. Wendell is doing very Well!

Hi. My name is Erica Cameron and I had a dog in MBF for about 3 months last fall. My American Bulldog, George, was only 3 years old when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Left paralised with fear and diminishing funds, I did and internet search and found Laurie Kaplan's Magic Bullet Fund. They are a great organization that both donate and help you to raise the money necessary for your dog's cancer traeatments. Laurie also provides you with great advice. Although George did not win in the end, he was worth every minute and every penny I spent helping him in his battle against cancer. And, he fought and stayed in good spirits all the way to the end. I would recommend joining the MBF family to anyone else going thought this with their dog.
