Maccabi World Union

As the Co-Chair of the Maccabi World Union Young Leadership Committee in Los Angeles, I committed to raising at least $4,800 to sponsor a young Jewish athlete ($4,800 total sponsorship per athlete) from an economically-distressed Jewish community, so that s/he may fulfill his/her birthright by coming to Israel and participating in the Maccabiah this past summer. The full sponsorship covers training, preparation, transportation and lodging, Jewish/Israel programming and follow-up at Maccabi facilities in each home country, Shabbat experiences and tours of Israel. To that end, my Young Leadership Committee and I have thrown parties at LA hotspots, coordinated Shabbat Dinners and other family-oriented fundraising events, and attended the 18th Maccabiah in Israel this past summer to witness the fruits of our labor and generate renewed enthusiasm for our efforts going forward.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
that it involves a perfect fusion of the two things most Jewish American kids grew up loving most: Israel and sports.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
unbelievably appreciative, gracious, supportive, caring and welcoming.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
affect incredible positive change in the Jewish world (in both Israel and globally), by widening its philanthropic efforts, strengthening its branding efforts, and encouraging others to join.

Maccabi is one of the best organizations around. It not only raises money for athletes but also supports food parcel programs and education. It is so diverse in its efforts, a rarity in a more specialized non-profit world. I am priviliged to know and be part of this organization.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Israel, spending the day in their youth camps.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
build more leadership groups around the country

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the comittment to develop its volunteers and board members.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
all eager to make a difference and help out by any means necessary.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
change the lives of several children who may never get to experience Israel and the Maccabiah Games.
Ways to make it better...
the young leadership groups had more contact with those affected in Israel
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
getting the North America young leadership to a nationally recognized level
One thing I'd also say is that...
I love this organization
