When my boys were 7 & 9, they were conscripted into a school play by their teacher. My youngest was a bit shy and cried at the thought. But both agreed to give it a try. After one rehearsal, they were hooked. They tried out for every school play all the way through high school -- happily working backstage when not cast.
Today both are ministers, and they credit their theater experience for helping them in their chosen profession. They have self confidence, amazing memorization skills, great stage presence and empathy for others. One of them -- a hospice chaplain -- takes his guitar everywhere, integrating a music therapy program into his work.
There is no doubt that being a part of the theater greatly impacted their lives and how they help meet the needs of those they serve.

I am consistently amazed at how professional the productions at MMAS are. Last week's Streetcar Named Desire was wonderful, as pretty much EVERY show I've ever seen there has been. The space is lovely, with a wonderful artists' gallery serving as the lobby of the theatre; it's really nice to be able to look at the fantastic art before and after the show and during intermission. The theatre seats are comfortable, and there's not a bad seat in the house. Parking is easy; the whole experience is perfect. What a gem!

MMAS is a wonderful intimate space where every seat is a great seat. The lobby hosts a collection of local art providing a great space for mingling during intermission. The staff is welcoming and eager to share information about the the production and the theater. The production I attended was well cast and the actors quickly had everyone involved in the story.

All in all, this theater is a true gem for Mansfield and the surrounding area!

MMAS offers local talent a place to meet with others who share their values of entertaining the public with laughter, drama, music, comedy, artistic ability, and more. The 80-seat black box theater offers the audience a unique experience by letting them feel "in on the action". The new art gallery is a wonderful addition to the theater and the adjoining classroom allows practice time and meetings to be held even while performances are going on in the main space. In my 6 years of involvement with the group, I have seen people come from miles around (literally) to join in the fun. I highly recommend this group.

Wonderful theatre in an intimate setting. The gallery features local artists, all of whom are so talented! So many excellent programs that appeal to everyone in the community. We are lucky to be home to this little gem!

"Streetcar Named Desire" was just amazing! Dawn Tucker blew my socks off with her portrayal of Blanche DuBois. It was wonderful to see such a powerhouse performance up close in the Black Box Theatre. The entire cast was outstanding and the set was incredible. Kudos to Director, Mike Keirnan, for a terrific show.

Many years ago my wife and I went to see the play "the Man From La Mancha".It was terrific! A couple weeks ago we went to see it again with the same person doing the lead. As we left I remarked to him it just keeps getting better. Not the performences, they we great the first time, but the sets and staging this time belie the fact that this was done locally. We invited frends of ours that are great thearter goers and also have been involved in regional theater for many years. They were so enthused that they want to return on a regular basis. I yhave long held the belief that the arts are undersupported at all levels and MMAS fills a very important void in this town.

Recently I worked with the Morini Gallery director to coordinate a first time abstract show. The response was fabulous; over 73 pieces of quality artwork were submitted. He curated and hung the works with style and respect for this eclectic body of work. The response from theatre goers viewing the works at intermission was extremely supportive, the opening reception well attended and the sale of artwork was active.

The theatre is a wonderful community resource and inclusion of the Morini Gallery adds richness to the theatergoing experience. Kudos to all for their enthusiasm and efforts to promote the arts in the broadest sense.

What a great place! The theater is a fabulous setting with a maximum of about 75 seats - you're always close to the show. In fact, you're so close that you sometimes feel you're in the show. The performers do a great job and the scenes are very professionally done. Everything from musicals to one-man shows, they have it all. We've been attending every show for years and have yet to do disappointed. Our dollars fund a great source of entertainment. If you've never been, drop by. Once you go, you'll be hooked :).

In addition to putting on great performances, the group sponsors students in the performing arts. This is a place where your dollars make a difference.

As a small local group, you get to know the people involved. Each works many long hours and the results are outstanding. The shows are comparable to large theater productions in Boston, but set in an intimate local environment.

It's hard to think of something I'd change. I suppose nicer seats would be nice. Keep doing what you do. We enjoy it!

MMAS is a wonderful community arts organization. I have participated in their events since the beginning and have been extremely impressed as it has grown from a home-based group to a well-organized community institution. It supports the visual arts through exhibitions and an arts festival and as the location for the town Art Association. The plays presented in the black box theater are of professional quality. The group also provides classes and scholarships.
I have participated as an exhibiting artist, a member of the audience, and as a member. Mansfield is so fortunate to have such a source of entertainment and education.
