LUCKY DOG ANIMAL RESCUE

I first encounter LDAR when I started my search for another dog in September 2011. I sent my application and after tlkaing to coordinators, a home vist and a ver check, I was approved and got to bring home our new dog. Three months later when my mom realized she would like a dog we started searching LDAR for someone to add to our family. Once again another amazing experience adopting! After having had two wonderful dogs join our house I decided to become a volunteer for Lucky Dog and now work at adoption events and doing home visits to ensure that Lucky Dog's get placed in great permanent houses!

I lost one of my beloved dogs in 2009 to a reaction to a medical immunization. After a few months of grieving, I made the decision that it was time to get another sibling for my female shepherd/husky mix and went in search of a rescue dog. Though I had applied to several rescues and went to quite a few rescue events, I ended up adopting from Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. I found the volunteers to be very responsive to my questions and helpful in my search for a new furry child. My experience was so positive, that I adopted another dog from them in the months that followed. Lucky Dog keeps those that have been involved with them informed of upcoming events and ways to help dogs/cats in need. Following their newsletters and webpage inspired me to want to increase my involvement, and I soon became a volunteer for the organization. This gave me a first-hand glimpse of the many tasks involved in keeping such an organization going and of the many dedicated volunteers who give hundreds of hours of their time and money from their own finances to help save wonderful dogs and cats that other people have elected to cast off. The reality involved in rescuing animals can be stressful and sometimes heartbreaking, but those that run Lucky Dog endure those stresses in order to save the lives of animals in need. Each day when I watch my pups play or snuggle with me on the couch, I realize what a wonderful gift they are to me. Without an organization such as Lucky Dog, my boys would not be alive. Thank you, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue!

I have both adopted from and volunteered for this group (from its inception). I am continually amazed at the lengths to which this group will go to not only rescue but care for their pups. Most groups wouldn't consider heartworm positive dogs or dogs that need expensive surgeries as good candidates for rescue however Lucky Dog does not shy away from those challenges. Rescue can be a very emotional undertaking and it is not about the numbers with Lucky Dog. It is about a good match for both the dog and the adopter. I would not hesitate to adopt from Lucky Dog. They put the animals first.

I was lucky and got a great dog from this group. While most people that successfully adopt pets conflate the joy associated with that pet with the organization they got it from, that's not how I operate. When leaving reviews, one needs to at least try to be objective if they actually want their review to be useful to others. Since my wife and I first moved in together, we've been believers in "rescue" dogs. Each time we've needed to fill that space in our lives with a warm-furry, we've sought out local rescue organizations. In general, we prefer to be repeat customers of organizations we've found particularly helpful (but, you can't always be lucky enough to do that). While Lucky dog is good from the standpoint that they try to place the animals in their care into good homes, they are a very chaotic organization. Depending on which of their personnel you talk to, your home might be considered the "perfect" home or it might be considered a "dangerous" home. It creates a bit of "emotional whiplash". While other organizations seem to realize the pet adoption process should be a positive experience for all involved, I'm not sure this group gets that. The only reason I'm giving them as high a review as I have is more a matter of "they're better than a number of the alternatives": you don't immediately get the impression that they're all animal-hoarders in disguise (though some seem to exhibit those tendencies - probably what creates the spotty experience when working with them).

Lucky Dog worked so patiently with us in finding just the right dog! My husband had never had a dog and his family was terrified of them, so finding the right addition to our home was a challenge...but thanks to Lucky Dog's patience (and the MANY available dogs at their shows!) my husband had plenty of chances to fall in love with his perfect match.
We got 'lucky' in March of '11 with an Am-Staff mix and 6 months later, we couldn't be happier!! Our pooch has the perfect personality for our laid-back household and quickly learned to stay on his bed when extended family visited...he's even managed to win over some of our sworn dog-hating family members!!
Kate (an LDAR volunteer) was especially helpful in the transition period, offering plenty of email support if we needed it. They're well-organized and have an army of volunteers to back each other up when needed; truly a top-notch non-profit with a heart for doing good.

We had never intended to add another canine member to our family after one had left us last year abruptly due to complications of her aging health. We already had another most adorable life on earth, but he wasn't content to be alone so we sought out, and found another one looking for a home. We hadn't know about the organization.. and we were completely unaware of the scope the organization has been going through rescuing much-deserved animals. Things rolled through rather quick though once we applied for adoption, and we adopted another lovely Pom in a week, and she could not have been the better choice to our family than any others. Initially we had other prospective Poms we'd applied to various groups/shelters, but no other could have been the one we adopted from the Lucky Dog. They truly match dogs (and I'm sure it's the same with cats, too) to the best family accordingly, for the best interest of the animal. I cannot dare say we're the best fit for our adopted Lucky Dog, but our family have truly been blessed to have her and we can't say enough "Thank You"s. Our parents were never thrilled to have another dog, since we spend too much time/love/money on them than finding our own family, but as soon as our own Lucky Dog was carried in to our house (she was injured and on a cast when she first came, so we carried her more than let her walk in the beginning), our parents could not have loved her more. We could actually see hearts beaming out from their eyes!
So since then, after our own family matters (and there were a lot this year.. everyone had been newly diagnosed with some kind of illness) have settled a bit, my sister and I decided we wanted to do more than what we got.. and do as much as we can, when we can, in volunteering for the group. After all, if it hadn't been for all of the volunteers, including the ones from South Carolina where our Lucky Dog came from, she would never have been able to make herself into our family.. and give such joyful life. We've been saying she may be a Lucky Dog, but we're the Lucky Family!

nothing really. I just hope there are more volunteers and more donations..
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is the best-- not only did they rescue my adorable puppy Ninja from a high-kill shelter in South Carolina, but they united her with her future family-- me! I was impressed by how high their screening standards were from start to finish, and I am so happy to have been able to a be a part of the amazing work they do. I know that if my experience is any indication, the many dogs and puppies they save have found loving homes and renewed lives.

We adopted Herbie from Lucky Dog back in April. Herbie is a 3-legged Bassador. Lucky Dog saved him from a high kill shelter and paid for him to have his leg removed (he had been hit by a car!) Lucky Dog saved his life and he has saved ours. Our elder golden retriever passed away just 6 weeks ago and he has helped us cope with her death! We are very thankful that Lucky Dog exists and that they go to such lengths to save these sweet animals!

NONE! They are angels to both dogs and humans!
I adopted my (amazing!!!) dog through Lucky Dog and had a great experience. His foster mom responded to my interest email very quickly and answered all the questions I had. When I got to the adoption event they allowed me plenty of time to get to know my dog and I never felt rushed or pressured into adopting. They asked me questions to make sure we were a good fit for each other and did a home visit that afternoon. They even helped me shop for him by providing me a detailed list of things I would need and advice. Everyone working the event got so excited when they saw he was going home. A few weeks after I adopted him, I emailed the organization to ask a question and they answered it right away. Now I volunteer with the organization to help other pups find their forever homes. They have amazing dogs and a fabulous caring staff. I have had a very positive experience with Lucky Dog and would definitely consider adopting another dog from them in the future.

I have seen how much the staff cares about every dog in their care. They make sure the dogs are going to be a good fit with an adopter before they send them home. Now that I'm volunteering I have seen many dogs meet their potential adopters and it has been a great experience. They also do a great job sending volunteer email updates and utilize their social networking sites well.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is still a young organization, but they are doing a great job. I would say keep on keepin' on and continue to get their name out there. From the results at adoption events and the number of fans they have on their facebook page I think they are doing a wonderful job for a brand new organization, especially when they are competing with so many other animal rescues.
