Review from Guidestar

I loved this wonderful museum tucked into the small Orchard Street setting in the lower east side of NYC. The tour shows you how Americans lived in times past under tough and crowded city conditions, with poor access to water and sanitation. The guides explain how policy changes were made as a result of these poor living conditions in America.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Before I ever visited the museum, I went to its Website and read the stories of each and every one of the families who lived in the tenement building over the years. Each had fascinating stories.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Open more of the apartments, which I know they are working on.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It is easy to learn from this museum even when you are not physically present. Their speaker series offer terrific authors and the blog and Website keep you engaged.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The staff at the Tenement were marvelous. Friendly, helpful and courteous, as well as knowledgeable about the history of the museum. Dedicated to keeping history alive.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand the number of tours and renovate more of the apartments for visitors, in addition to adding space for a gallery of immigrant art, books and photos. They could also increase speaker series.

Ways to make it better...

I had had more time to see more apartments. Each apartment is a separate tour.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Continued funding to insure success!

One thing I'd also say is that...

I love the museum's blog! I also like the discussions they hold following some of the tours.
