Our Mission is three-fold:1) To develop innovative programsGirls Club programs fall into three overlapping categories: Leadership Development, Literacy and Healthy Bodies/Healthy Minds. Our Leadership programs focus on developing work and entrepreneurial skills, environmental advocacy and civic engagement. Our Literacy programs address media literacy, financial literacy, cultural literacy as well as reading and writing. Our Healthy Bodies/ Healthy Minds programs include physical fitness, nutrition education and counseling. 2) To build a dedicated center for girls and their families. In 2006 The Girls Club will begin construction on The Lower Eastside Girls Club Center for Women and Families. This 50,000 square foot facility will be the first "green" sustainably designed and built community center in the United States and the first and only Girls Club in New York City. 3) To create an organization that is entrepreneurial, innovative, flexible and sustainable. The Girls Club works in community context- connecting with youth and their families in schools, engaging local businesses, artists, institutions of higher education and faith based organizations in a collaborative effort to support our children.
