The Lord's Pantry has been serving the needy of the greater Downingtown area for over forty years. It is an all volunteer agency that serves it clients with dignity and respect. It has grown rapidly over the last few years to the point where it has over 700 clients. I have been involved with the Lord's Pantry for over six years and have been inspired by the leadership and dedication of the director, assistant director and the many other volunteers dedicated to serving the needy.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In the profound appreciation expressed by many of the cliens served. On one occasion when shopping for the pantry the cashier told me that one time when she was out of work the pantry saves she and her children from starving.

We have seen the Lord's Pantry of Downingtown grow to its current size over the last decade and a half. A family friend introduced us to the good works that were being done at this local organization. The concept that a few community members could work together to raise funds, garner local vendor support and ignite the passion of volunteers within our community to serve others who were in need was lofty; however, that has been what the leaders of the Pantry have accomplished! We have chosen to support this non-profit organization in good times and in bad, through financial support and physically stocking the shelves. Our four children, two foster children and our foster-grandson have all helped out when we were called upon and the experience has been an invaluable education for our family. The Lord's Pantry of Downingtown is the culmination of the efforts of so many leaders, volunteers, businesses and donors; this entity should be the model for the creation of other similar entities based on its success. We are proud to financially and emotionally support the Lord's Pantry of Downingtown!

The Lord's Pantry does so much for our community. The volunteers are very kind and generous and organized. My son did his high school project there and it made him appreciate what he has and the importance of sharing his time and talent helping others.

The Lord's Pantry brings together a variety volunteers who all work together to collect, organize and distribute food to qualified individuals and families. My experience at the Lord's Pantry has built my character and brought the warmth of charity into my heart. Jan Leaf has been a family friend and a mother figure in my life and her work at the Lord's Pantry has been a perfect example of a person who puts community and the welfare of others ahead of his or her own priorities. Last winter I was able to spend a few weeks working close with her and I really got to view the hours of personal time that Jan puts into the pantry. Downingtown is truly blessed to have Jan Leaf and the volunteers at the Lord's Pantry.

I've known the director of Lord's Pantry my entire life and this is how I became involved with this nonprofit organization. Her daughter is one of my best friends and we grew up together; I started going to the Lord's Pantry at a very young age. Now that I am a junior in college, I realize the impact the Lord's Pantry has had on my life. As I'm beginning to student teach next semester, I realize the importance of God's love in a young child's life. The Lord's Pantry shares God's love through food, a necessity that is often taken for granted in many households. The people who run the Lord's Pantry and volunteer are the people who are making the world a better place.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it would open up Lord's Pantries all over the greater Philadelphia area and the surrounding cities. It would be a leading advocate for the importance of community, and taking care of one's neighbors.

The Lord's Pantry serves a vital need in our community in serving those that are food insecure. The goal is to do this in such a way that each client is treated with dignity and respect. Amazingly, this is a 100% volunteer run organization. Under the leadership of Jan and Linda, the pantry serves hundreds of families each month. The community rallies around the Pantry and is extremely supportive. The volunteers have a heart to serve and are the backbone of the organization. I am blessed to be part of such a wonderful organiztion!

I have had the pleasure for volunteering working for such a great and well run organization as the Lord's Pantry of Downingtown. I have never seen so many dedicated volunteers and directors. Many hours are spent behind the scenes as well as the times that the Pntry is open to clients. The Director, Assistant Director and all volunteers should be commended for a job well done. Sincerely, Vincent J. Tricome 710 Jacques Circle Chester Springs, PA 19425-2132 610-458-9281

I have been fortunate to be a volunteer at the pantry for over five years. It has been a humbling, but rewarding experience. The staff of the pantry is dedicated and is to be commended for their time, talent, and efforts. I feel we truly make a difference in our clients lives, not only by supplying needed food items, but by the caring, smiling faces that greet them when they visit us. With so many negatives in their lives, we can be the one bright spot of their day.

I am proud to be a resident of a community that offers healthy choices and varied food items to others in need. Contributions--of time and food-- are always welcome and are a tangible way for individuals to reach out and make a difference. Throughout the year special programs enable clients to receive items that they could not receive through direct government assistance programs, eg. cleaning supplies, cold medications, school supplies, etc. A well-organized Christmas appeal enables community members to contribute specific items so that families or individuals in financial need can also have a special holiday. I enjoy volunteering at the Lord's Pantry. It is well-run, cheerful, and truly tries to meet individual needs and requests.

I am in my second year as both a Board member and a volunteer. My experience is very positive. Everyone involved with the Lord's Pantry is a volunteer (i.e.- no one is on payroll). The Board is dedicated to help the Lord's Pantry achieve it's mission seeing that people do not go hungry in Chester County. The volunteers treat all clients with dignity. Clients get a shopping cart and pick out food that their family will eat (most other pantries provide clients with pre-selected food). The Lords Pantry also provides special events for Back To School, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The community has responded by providing funding for a fully furbished building in addition to the ongoing food donations.
