This program has changed our son's life. Chris' significant physical disability makes it nearly impossible to participate in any sports programs. We were introduced to sled hockey and could not believe it was a sport Chris could actually play. His sled and equipment were designed and adjusted to accommodate the limited range of motion Chis has in his arms. Thanks to the wonderful volunteers who push Chris on the ice, he is able to focus on managing the puck. Most importantly, Chris is actually part of a team and has developed friendships, responsibility and personal pride. We could never thank Bryan B and Frank M enough for giving Christopher this amazing opportunity and bringing so much pride and happiness to his life.

This organization has changed my son's life and as a result, brought such pride and happiness into our home. Despite Christopher's significant physical disability, he is able to participate in an organized sport (with hockey happening to be his favorite) and be part of an actual team. Never would we have expected our son to experience the same comradery that the non disabled athlete would feel. Playing sled hockey takes Chris out of his disabled world and allows him to feel like a regular guy. The expectation for him to be a responsible player is a great character builder for Chris and the experience of winning, losing and earning playing time will help prepare Chris for the real world. There is not a negative thing that can be said about this organization or its coaches and volunteers.

This is a wonderful program and sport for the differently -abled athlete. It's always exciting to attend a game and watch the sportsmanship and skill of these athletes. It takes tremendous dedication and heart to achieve what the Rough Riders has over the years! I can't say enough good things about the organization and the confidence and joy it brings to everyone involved. It truly has had such a big impact on everyone!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Change not one thing.

Not only has LISH given me the chance to play hockey like my able bodied peers but it has also helped shape me to be the person I am today. By being a member of the team for 10+ years, I have learned so much about acceptance, determination, and teamwork. I was only 10 years old when I discovered the program and was so excited that I found a sport that I could really compete in and maybe excel in. Now I attend the University of New Hampshire and play on their nationally ranked sled hockey team and also played for the United States Junior National Team during the 2010-2011 season. Without LISH, I would not have been able to do either of these things. LISH has given me and continues to give me the tools needed to see how far I can go in this sport, including ice time and new equipment. I am so grateful for LISH and all it has done for me.

I first became involved with the Long Island Sled Hockey program when I was 10 years old. Now 19 years old, I truly see the impact that LISH has had on my life. Born with a physical disability that has caused me to rely on crutches or a wheelchair to get around, I grew up thinking I could never play ice hockey, a sport that I always loved. That all changed when my best friend introduced me to LISH. After I got in a sled for the first time I was hooked. The only major difference between sled hockey and standard ice hockey is that we play in the seated position. The rules are the same, the same net and puck are used, and there is full checking. Not only has Long Island Sled Hockey allowed me to play hockey compete at a high level, but it has also allowed me to travel to various places and to meet countless numbers of incredible individuals. LISH has also offered me the tools to become the sled hockey player I am today. I currently play sled hockey for the University of New Hampshire and was a member of the United States Junior National Team for the 2010-2011 season. Without the Long Island Sled Hockey program, I would not be the person I am today and I am eternally grateful for everything the program has done for me.

My son started playing sled hockey when he was still very ill when it was part of a handicapped sports group. We broke away to focus this program only on sled hockey. With Bryan B. as our president, he has been able to raise funds and bring this sport and our team to places we NEVER thought we could go. But most of all, what it has done for the players, their self estreem, being part of a team and being able to play hockey, no matter what their challenges are, has been unbeleivable. No matter what a -person is facing,if they want to play, we WILL find a way. The journey so far has been amazing.

My son has been playing sled hockey for many years with the program. It gives differently abled athletes of all ages and issues to be able to play a game they love and NEVER thought they would be able to play. They come off the ice all sweated and tired but you will NEVER see bigger smiles and their happiness to be able to play. The program is well run and the money that is raised goes to travel, equipment and other necessities of the game. If you or someone you know that is "differently abled" likes to play, come on down and see if you like it. No matter what the issue, if you want to play, we NEVER say NO and will find a way!!

Sled Hockey is a unique and exciting sport, i.e. USA GOLD MEDAL at the 2014 Paralympics. The Long Island Sled Hockey Rough Riders team is also unique and exciting at the hometown level. It offers athletes of varying ages and disabilities the opportunity to play in a sport they may never have thought possible. I am proud to be a volunteer in this organization for many years and continue to be amazed at the differently-abled athletes on the team.

Long Island Sled Hockey RoughRiders - the best! This is a team composed of athletes, who despite mental and/or physical challenges, have been given the opportunity to participate in the sport of ice hockey. They amaze everyone when their DISABILITY becomes their ABILITY to compete on the ice, demonstrate good sportmanship with a competitive edge and show their electrifying team spirit. As a parent volunteer for over 15 years l have watched every athlete who joined this team develop a personal best. I am proud to have the honor of volunteering with Long Island Sled Hockey and see how this organization has improved the lives of many disabled people.

What a great organization! Bryan Blomquist and his players are dedicated to the sport and to every differently-abled athlete they meet--teamwork that extends far beyond their time together on the ice.

The kids are dedicated to their team, and work very hard. They learn to participate as athletes strengthening their bodies, and make strong friendships. They learn to trust team mates and have fun while playing a sport.

Great organization from top to bottom. All are welcome both disabled and able body athletes. Competitive without being exclusive. Pass the word to any and all friends looking for something to do out of the ordinary. I'm sure if you help out you will get more out of your experience than you could ever put in.
