Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Rights, Voter Education & Registration, Voting Rights

Mission: Long Distance Voter increases civic participation and removes impediments to voting by helping US citizens register and vote by mail.

Results: We've had over 3 million visitors since launching in 2008. We've had almost 1 million visitors in October 2012. In the past four years we've registered over 120,000 voters and we've helped another 530,000+ visitors get their absentee ballots. And we'd done this all without a single full time staff member.

We, as a nation, are at a particularly precarious crossroads regarding voting. Voter education, voter access, and voter participation are consistently being tested and obstructed by those who would prefer that eligible US voters not voice their opinions about their government at the polls. Long Distance Voter (LDV) has worked tirelessly for the better part of a decade to make sure that all eligible voters have intuitive tools at their disposal to quickly, easily, and effectively cast their votes. Early voting and voting-by-mail have gained distinct popularity over the past few years, in no small part to LDV's bold efforts. That renowned organizations like Google and Rock The Vote are both supporters of and partners with LDV just reiterates the amount of respect that LDV has rightfully earned in working hard to make active, year-round boosted voter interest a reality in the US.

Without question, Long Distance Voter is arguably the most comprehensive, thorough, and consistently up-to-date voter registration and absentee ballot request resource online. For having an entirely volunteer support staff, LDV maintains incredible accuracy, like that of "the big dogs", all the while keeping a very grassroots and highly interactive outreach with its visitors. Every donation it receives goes entirely to promoting voter education , with just a little bit saved for site maintenance. It truly lives up to the spirit of an effective non-profit.

This awesome nonprofit is the best place on the internet to find all the deadlines and all the applications you need to vote in every state in the US, and they do it with hard work and almost no money. They're the best!

Long Distance Voter is the best! LongDistanceVoter.com along with Countmore.org provide great resources for voters. The volunteers that run the organization are great as well.

Long Distance Voter's website is the only place on the internet where a voter can find the date for every deadline he or she will need to know to make sure their vote is counted on election day. Through working with LDV, I've experienced how difficult it is to find clear details regarding obtaining an absentee ballot in many states. It is amazing how much simpler LDV makes the process and even more amazing that it does so using exclusively volunteer efforts.

Long Distance Voter provides US voters with a one stop resource for voting absentee. Many groups work on this issue, but only Long Distance Voter has a proven record of keeping their information accurate.

LDV is a bootstrapped, volunteer-run org, meaning every $ goes a long way. It's one of the most heavily trafficked voting sites on the internet and the only big-player that is 100% volunteer operated.
