Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Health

Mission: Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

Target demographics: Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Geographic areas served: Volunteer opportunities are available on-site at our West Palm Beach Hospital

Programs: We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

I donated my daughter's hair. It was also her first time cutting it. I never received a certificate. That says it all. I will never donate again to them.

Hello, I am the Donor Manager. I sincerely apologize that you had difficulties with receiving your thank you acknowledgement; I know how much kindness, time and generosity go into making a donation. Our turn around time is typically 90 days but anytime after that we are always happy to look into why you did not receive yours or resend a certificate. Sometimes certificates can accidentally go into the junk folder or there may be an address error. We are a staff of 6 employees servicing worldwide, we really so greatly on our wonderful volunteers that generate the thank you acknowledgements. They consistently work diligently but sometimes human error can happen. I would love to send you a new thank you acknowledgement, your donation is so appreciated, we never want a donor to go without a thank you. Please, if you are able, give us a call at 561-833-7332, we will immediately take care of this for you. Christa T. Stamos

I donated my hair about a year ago - the stylist cut my hair, but I completed the donation form and mailed the hair & form myself, so I know the information was complete & correct. A few weeks later, I got a thank-you postcard.

I have donated four times. People do need to know that Locks of Love does NOT make wigs. Locks of Love makes prosthetic hair pieces, which are different from wigs. I am tired of people knocking the charity because they know that Locks of Love doesn't make that many wigs.

THE POINT OF DONATING IS NOT TO BE RECOGNIZED, BUT TO ANONYMOUSLY DONATE.
IF YOU ARE DONATING FOR THE RECOGNITION, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO DO IT.
YOU SHOULD BE DOING THIS OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF YOUR HEART FOR THOSE PEOPLE IN NEED, FOR THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL WIGS OUT OF OUR DONATED HAIR USUALLY FOR VICTIMS OF CANCER.
I HAVE DONATED TIME AND TIME AGAIN AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL MY HAIR IS 100% GRAY.
