All the volunteers from the rookies to the regulars come here to make a difference in at least one person’s life, in which the Loaves & Fishes helps them achieve their goals. The staff is wonderful, they are dedicated to the community and helping the volunteers achieve the best possible results, which makes the whole experience a happy, friendly and memorable one. The clients are grateful for what the organization/volunteer are doing for them, and they make it very clear, by expressing their gratitude to the volunteers for all the hard work, dedication and effort they put in, which in turn makes their lives just a little bit easier. By providing nutritional meals, a safe and friendly environment, the Loaves & Fishes sets the standard high on how a soup kitchen should be run. With the Loaves & Fishes you don’t just touch one persons life you touch several. All in all the experience you get from Loaves & Fishes is something you just can’t forget.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

every time you leave the locations after donating your time you can see the results on the faces of the clients.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

If I had to make any changes it would have to be getting a constant flow of volunteers. And of course more funding to expand and maintain the kitchens.

To me, this is work is very rewarding because it is very personal. You actually meet the people you are helping. Volunteering at Loaves and Fishes reminds me of the powers of a simple smile, a thank you, or a word of encouragement. At the Loaves and Fishes Family Kitchen, typically the work lasts for about 2 and a half hours. You are assigned a specific job (pour drinks, serve food at the food line, etc...). When the eating is done, ALL VOLUNTEERS help clean. It is tiring work, but I leave the kitchen with a feeling of satisfaction from serving my community. I enjoy the work, and I enjoy the interaction with the other volunteers and the folks who show up for a warm meal. I am very glad to be a regular volunteer here :)

I look forward to my volunteer time and Loaves & Fishes more than anything else I do all week! The staff are all nice people and the clients that are served are all very appreciative of the staff prepared meal and they also applaud the volunteers every meal for their assistance. It is not only nice to be feel appreciated and welcome, but it is also lots of fun to interact with the staff and clients. It is a GREAT place to do volunteer work and a GREAT place to feel like you are making a difference!

Loaves & Fishes offers a warm meal, shelter from the weather, varied services and a strong sense of community. The other day, an early day in November, a guest came to me with her little toddler in tow. She reminded me that on the Friday before Halloween I was taking photos of the guests in their costumes. Well, her two boys were there that night all dressed up, and got their pictures taken but her little girl was home ill. So, on this early day in November she brought her little girl in, all dressed up in costume and ready to take her photo. It meant so much to this guest, this mom, to have all of her kids pictured on the web-site. I held back my excitement as I took the picture. I was quite proud to be a part of such a moment. Community. Loaves & Fishes is a fine example of community.

While volunteering with Loaves & Fishes I've seen all ages, races and sizes. I've served the fully-functioning and the handicapped.... They all come from different places, but their hearts are all the same, they are filled with gratitude when they come to Loaves & Fishes. The atmosphere here is like that of a neighborhood- family restaurant; you know, the kind where everyone knows everyone. The staff and the volunteers of Loaves & Fishes want to be there, they want to serve and it shows!

If I had to make any changes I would get the "one time" volunteers to become regulars! And extra funding would be amazing!

I first came to Loaves and Fishes nearly 3 months ago. My first day with them was nothing from what I expected. Everyone was so friendly and helpful to me. They always kept me busy by helping prepare the sides (at the time I was helping make the salads!) The people who come to Loaves & Fishes show so much gratitude towards the volunteers and staff with friendly greetings like 'God bless your soul' and 'Thanks for the meal!' I've been volunteering for 3 months now, (2-3 times a week) and with the completion of my required hours, I definitely am planning to keep coming back to volunteer! This organization is now part of my weekly routine.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

I wouldn't change a thing.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

It taught me that there are better things I could be doing with my time, and that there are a lot more people out there who need your help.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Great.

I found out about Loaves & Fishes Familiy Kitchen from a friend. I was told that everyone is easy to get along with and fun to be around. On my first day all the volunteers and the people in charge was telling jokes. Furthermore, the visitors are approachable and respected the volunteers. Before volunteering to this place, I didn't know what to expect because i have never volunteer. I've been volunteering to this place for a while now and I can say that I always have a good time.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

keep the same staff or add more. I would expand the place where the community eats

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people in charge and all the activities we do

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

easy to get a long with and hilarius

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help more unwealthy people and put joy to their faces

Ways to make it better...

there's more volunteer

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the place is too small.

One thing I'd also say is that...

i enjoy beeing a part of this organization.

Should this review be counted for a specific campaign?
