Zachary Bonner was profiled tonight on the NBC nighly news with Bryan Williams. I was so inspired by his "Walk Across America" trek I took the time to google his website and came to GuideStar to view his 990. I will definately make my contribution.

Little kid, big ideas, and he really is changing the world! Go, Zach, Go! You change lives and touch hearts wherever you go, and you are taking your message to places probably you never even dreamed it would reach!

The Little Red Wagon Foundation was started by Zach Bonner, age 12... yes, that's right, 12. He started doing charity work following devastating hurricanes in Florida several years ago and everything snow-balled from there. His goal is to raise awareness and funds for homeless children across the country (and around the world). He is doing this by walking. So far, he has walked from Tampa, FL, to Washington, D.C., and he will begin a walk in May that will take him from Florida to Los Angeles, CA. My son, Dylan, met up with him very early in his first walk, from Tampa to Tallahassee. He walked one day with him and then I couldn't talk my son OUT of walking, so we continued on with Zach and his mom, walking as much as we could, helping out with their secondary transportation, etc. Our active participation in the walks ended in Georgia, but Zach and his extraordinary efforts are always in our hearts and minds!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My own life but more importantly, through the eyes of my own 11-year-old son, who has since formed his own charity, Cans 4 Pets, which involves collecting aluminum cans for recycling, then turning the money over to local animal shelters and rescues.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do a better job of coordinating the walks and all the planning that goes into everything involved.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The walking, seeing new places, simplifying life down to the bare necessities, meeting other folks who feel the same way! Doing good things for other people (and animals) makes you feel spectacular, no matter how difficult your own life is!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Absolutely amazing, from every walk of life, every facet of society!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the world... truly! One child at a time!

Ways to make it better...

we could have kept walking! If my husband's health and our own precarious financial situation weren't factors, we'd STILL be walking!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The ideals and dreams are much higher than can ever be adequately or completely reached by the number of people involved directly in decision-making. They just need to be willing to let others help, to make life a bit more manageable for themselves.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Zach is an amazing soul! This was all his idea and is still all his idea... he does the hardest part for the least reward, and that is exactly the way he wants it! He's awesome!
