Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Camps, Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Children & Youth, Developmentally Disabled Centers, Disabilities, Human Services, Sports, Youth Development Programs

Mission: The mission of Lindsey's Place is to enrich the lives of children and young adults with special needs by creating a residential experience that promotes self-esteem, self- confidence, and independence. Our focus is to provide experiential programs that promote personal growth in a nurturing environment that is challenging, creative, social, and positive.

Results: We have begun our capital campaign to move forward with a facility of our own. Fundraising supports have grown in the few years we have existed and community involvement is growing. With 3 successful weekend camper sessions, we have served approximately 21 campers, with a high rate of returning campers. Our 4th weekend is coming in April with hopes to host up to 12 campers.

Programs: As funding permits, we offer weekend residential camp programs. We hope to grow and become a year round facility.

Lindsey's Place is like nothing else in this area. It provides a camping experience for children and young adults. The things I like the most are that the people involved really care about this organization and the campers. Also, the organization isn't limited to just one type of disability. It is open to people with all different types of disabilities.

It’s so great to finally have a place in the southeast area that affords children and young adults with disabilities a place where they can have fun and enjoy a camping experience like so many other non-disabled individuals. Lindsey’s Place allows young people with all types of disabilities, to engage in camp-like activities that they would normally miss out on. They do so many fun things during camp– they sing, dance, play games, draw, paint, and make new friends. Life can be so challenging and hard for these children a daily basis. If you’re ever fortunate enough to see the faces of these special young people light up while at camp, it’s something that you will never forget. Lindsey’s Place is a wonderful organization. It’s definitely a special place for very special people.

My husband and I have known Lindsey since she was an infant and we have watched her struggles and her successes. If you want to get a huge, infectious smile from her talk with her about her camp experiences in New York. Her Mom and Dad have always tried to provide Lindsey as many opportunities to experience what other children without special needs enjoyed. One of these was a summer camp. The only suitable camp was located in the North East and a great distance from home. This posed numerous problems for the harts, the distance and special travel accommodations to name just two obstacles to hurdle. Special camp counselors took a personal interest in Lindsey and the Harts and over the last several years a dream of a camp for special needs children and young adults like Lindsey on the South East coast became more than a dream but a strong possibility for reality. Through the love and commitment of many there's more than just hope but a concrete goal to build a camp in Savannah, GA to provide for others the same opportunities that brought so much joy to Lindsey. We love this young lady very much she warms our heart with her faith in God and her love for life. Lindsey's Place would be a wonderful addition to a world where children like Lindsey are sometimes left out of the loop of what we consider normal .and we take for granted. Lindsey's Place deserves the opportunity to be a reality, the only thing stopping the progress is money and the land to build, the desire to work to make it happen is abundant.

i'm just a local ford dealer. it is amazing to see the energy and committment of the board members to make this work. lindsey's place will be here long after we are gone thanks to the vision and courage of a handful of good people. when you get busy you forget about the needs of other people. sometimes it's important to take a step back and see what's going on around you.

There are no no words to describe the impact of Lindsey's Place on the children and young adults with special needs. I am a board member and parent of special needs child. More often than not children with special needs are left out of "camp" experiences growing up. The wonderful staff at Lindsey's Place make it possible for these children to feel included in activities that their friends and siblings and peers are doing.

The camp also gives the caregivers of these children/young adults a much needed respite.

Attending summer camp is something that many children take for granted, but not children with special needs. Lindsey's Place is changing that. It offers a unique environment for the campers to experience value, acceptance, love and FUN! A great socialization experience for the children, and support for the parents!

Social interaction is a need for all. Lindsey's Place recognizes that need for young adults with disabilities. This is important because many of these young men and women have completed school, and they lose this time away from parents/guardians - or, they lose this time of independence. Lindsey's Place is passionate about the needs of those with disabilities, and has excellent leaders with years of experience.

Lindsey's Place is doing amazing things for children with special needs. My husband and I are apart of the board for Lindsey's place and seeing the impact that a camp makes on these children with special needs is life changing. We are blessed to actually know Lindsey in our life but also see how our help within this organization can reach other children just like her. Growing up I went to camp in NC every summer and it was the most amazing experience ever and to be able to offer it to these children that deserve it way more than all of us is truly special.

There are no words to fully express Lindsey's Place. If you are a parent of a special needs child or know one personally then you know how important it is for everyone involved to know that there is a place to go, something to do, friends to meet, someone that can't wait to see you again and memories to be made!
My daughter, LIndsey attended such a camp for 12 years and we learned so much from that experience. We saw her grow in so many ways into the beautiful young lady she is today - and camp had so much to do with this. She, as well as her family, learned that there was a way to increase that circle of love that surrounds a special needs child - going away to camp. She learned to be secure with people other than her family, she made new friends, couldn't wait to go back every summer and she made so many wonderful memories!
This is what Lindsey's Place is offering in the Southeast. One camper last October had never been away and her parents had never had a break in14 years!! It was a wonderful camp session - We are getting ready for our next session in April and my only wish is that we could grow faster into a full time camp.
But - I KNOW this will happen one day! Until then Kara will keep on forging ahead and we will all be behind her !!! We have a fantastic sponsor in Savannah - our friends that own Barka Barkstar. Rene and Geoff heard me talk about Lindsey's Place and decided they wanted to make us their priority and they have helped us every since. They single handedly organized and ran our first big fund raiser and are in the process of putting our second one together. These people are so special and they are creating a huge circle of supporters around us in Savannah GA ! Thanks to everyone that joins us on this incredible journey !!

I have had the unique experience to be a part of something magical as a participant in the organization of Lindseys Place. Lindseys Place provides, to those who are challenged, opportunities that are considered a part of normal life for most. Lindseys Place provides a safe place for youth with disabilities to embrace life and to do things such as sit around and enjoy a camp fire, play volley ball, play board games late into the night, go on nature walks, participate in arts and crafts, tell stories with each other, and to compete with others as part of a team that includes people with various levels of disability. These people are not considered outside the norm of society for the time they are at Lindseys Place but are rather well within new formed paramters of what is normal as set by the Lindseys Place staff. The magic is seeing the light in the eyes of all the participants, from Camp Director to the Campers; there is clear representation of what is most important in life and that is care, love and concern for others.

We began Lindsey's Place in 2008 with the goal in mind to bring happiness and more fulfilling life to individuals with special needs.

I have worked with the wonderful population of individuals for over 16 years. The passion I have to make a difference comes from the smiles on all the faces of our campers each year! The staff too!

Lindsey's Place has already made a difference and I am so proud to be a part of it! Please help us get the word out about this very special place. Our campers need YOUR help to succeed in having a special opportunity like this in their life. We all deserve to this Lindsey's Place grow much bigger and reach many more worthy individuals.
