Lincoln Child Center
Lincoln Child Center serves emotionally challenged youth and their families in the East Bay. They provide assistance for both residential and day treatment clients. Having worked with this population in the past I definitely support the efforts of this much needed program.

After many years of having a job, I suddenly found myself unemployed. Seeking something worthwhile to do while searching for a new job, I decided to volunteer at Lincoln Child Center. Initially I thought I would only volunteer at this non-profit’s annual fundraising gala event. However, as I learned more about the many different programs and services it provides to vulnerable and emotionally troubled children and their families, I eventually became an on-going volunteer mainly working with the development and marketing team. I am happy to share that once again I volunteered at this year’s Culinary Stars of the Bay tasting extravaganza benefiting Lincoln Child Center! Overall, my experience volunteering at Lincoln Child Center has been incredibly enriching as well as very rewarding.

I’ve personally experienced the results of this organization in that without my help the development and marketing team would have to set aside many hours to complete tasks such as sending out mailings to supporters and sponsors, preparing marketing packets, and updating or maintaining records in the database. As an outcome of my assistance with these tasks, development and marketing team members are able to spend more time on other projects that have a direct impact on the continued success of the many d

Aside from learning that programs and services, such as the ones Lincoln Child Center offers, do exist to help vulnerable children and their families, I have also learned about how non-profits operate, the issues non-profits confront, and difficult decisions these non-profits make and which have a big impact on their constituents.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
I feel very enriched and gratified every time I volunteer at Lincoln Child Center.

Lincoln Child Center is an amazing organization that helps to make a difference in the lives of thousands of troubled young people, who face so many challenges in their lives. The dedication of the professionals who work with and for these children are second to none and their commitment and passion to provide a caring, consistent environment for these children is obvious.

As a fellow human services professional, I understand the challenges and difficulties as well as the rewards of working with and for these amazing, resilient children. This challenging work goes unrecognized, many times without a thank you or an understanding of the difference you are making. BUT - I know that they (LCC) are making a difference, which is at least recognized by other human services professionals!

I have been involved with the Lincoln Child Center in Oakland Ca for the past 10 years. Through my organization we have worked with many of the LCC staff, met the children and families that they serve, and helped to raise funds year after year. We do this and I do this because I know the struggles that families face in the current environment and how so many children are abandoned, abused, and left without anyone to really care for them. LCC is the beacon of hope for many children in the SF Bay area who have experienced some type of trauma in their lives that is no fault of their own. LCC provides the care; nurturing, education, and emotional support that children and their families need to survive and eventually become good citizens even though they have experience traumatic events in their lives. The dedication of the LCC staff is unwavering and they work tirelessly through economic ups and downs because when the day is done, they are helping to secure a healthy future for the clients that they serve, as well as the communities.

My organization has donated holiday gifts for the children at LCC who otherwise may not have received anything at all. The joy that this brought to the children has made us continue this tradition for the past 10 years. We often receive artwork from the children. I have also prepared gourmet meals for the resident children. They are amazed at the many different cuisines that we prepare and they get to experience. I love the way they come up to us afterwards and ask how did we make a certain dish.

Expand the organization so that it has the capacity to take in more families and service more needs of the community
I'm new to the board, but I'm already impressed with the board makeup and the executive staffing at Lincoln. Lincoln is focused on what it does best - helping underserved and special needs children in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Through their 9 programs Lincoln has helped scores of children become successful when no one else would. It is an honor to serve an organization that is out there making a difference in the lives of so many children.

Being new, I haven't much experience working with this organization directly. The company I work for has supported Lincoln for over 10 years. Employees of the company I work for help out with such things as the Gourmet Club (a group of volunteers that get together to cook and feed Linoln's children food they may not have been exposed to), and assist with maintenance around Lincoln's campuses.

I'm too new and thus far I don't see anything I'd change. Because of budget problems and deficits, funding for Lincoln's programs is in jeopardy; we need organizations like Lincoln to fill in the gaps.

I have been greatly impressed by the events held in support of L.C.C. as well as the very noteworthy work they are doing for our youth in need. There is nothing like Lincoln Child Center in the Bay Area that serves this type of population and is sorely needed. The expertise and caring from the staff and volunteers is evident in all they do. It is a group that I feel confidant in supporting by donating money, time and effort. Their results are obvious.

I have served on the Lincoln Child Center Board for the past 17 years, during which time I have served as its Board Chair and Chair of practically all of its Board committees. This evidences my commitment to an organization that does a wonderful job of serving the needs of at risk youth, their families and their communities. Through a comprehensive set of programs -- from residential treatment to academic enrichment to therapeutic treatment and beyond -- Lincoln is able to prepare its clients for life outside of institutional settings where they can reach levels of success that years of abuse put practically beyond their reach. Lincoln restores hope and provides coping tools that put its clients in "a place" that is easily attained by children who are raised in loving, supportive, enriching environments.
Lincoln is going through a transition as it moves away from providing residential services that have been a major component of its service delivery regime. I am confident that Lincoln will exit this transition as a strong, stable organization with programs that meet the needs of the communities that Lincoln serves. I am excited about the intensified community-based direction that the organization is taking because it will allow Lincoln to be even more impactful than it has been.

Through my Gourmet Club activities, I am fortunate to be able to interact with Lincoln's clients. Through these contacts, I have come to realize that these clients are simply our kids who have been dealt a bad hand. I have met past Lincoln clients -- most recently at Lincoln's 2011 Culinary Stars event -- who speak fondly of how Lincoln has affected their lives. It’s gratifying to see these clients on the right tract living happy and productive lives.

Lincoln would be a stronger organization if it relied less on governmental funding for its programs. Hopefully, the private sector and the foundation community will realize the benefits that Lincoln confers on its clients in particular and society in general, and will increase their financial support of this organization so it can become as impactful as it can and wants to be.
Lincoln Child Center has enjoyed a long, rich history of providing critical services to vulnerable children in the Bay Area. We provide intensive mental health services, community-based wrap-around services, school-based services, and a nonpublic school program located on our campus high in the Oakland hills. Lincoln's programs have adapted through the years to community health needs and therapeutic trends. Today, we serve over 1000 children in two counties and 17 schools.

Lincolln Child Center ("LCC") is a great non-profit that offers assistance to a marginalized population of Oakland. These kids are in need of support which is provided by the staff of LLC. Children who are often over looked are placed front and center. They are encouraged to flourish and their families are given the support necessary.
LLC has been able to keep programs that assist their emotionally and physically abused kids through art and sports. LCC is an established presence in Alameda County.
This organization does wonders for a population that is rarely given a voice let alone a chance to succeed in this world.

I've been proud to work with foster youth in Alameda County for over ten years now, and my admiration for the work of Lincoln Child Center has grown tremendously during that time. Especially over the past several years - a time of ever intensifying challenges for all human service agencies in California - Lincoln has consistently demonstrated and affirmed its commitment to serving the most vulnerable among us. Its rich array of programs continues to evolve, and its leadership is fully engaged in ensuring that Lincoln is ahead of the curve, always striving to develop better ways to serve children and families impacted by foster care.
Lincoln is an institution - part of Oakland's past, present, and future.
