About ten years ago LAM guided me through a divorce when I was a single mother, working full-time and going to school to finish my MA. They made the process stress free and secured my child support and a fair settlemlent. More recently LAM helped me file a work-related restraining order to protect employees at our school. I was a nervous wreck through the whole thing and even had to face the individual in front of the court, but LAM held my hand all the way. I have immense respect and gratitude for their quality services.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Community organizing and advocacy to support the elderly and immigrant populations in Marin.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

support the Executive Director with fundraising to preserve his many talents and energy for community outreach and program development, which he excels.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Paul Cohen's leadership and tireless hard work.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

attentive, thorough and calm!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

spend less time raising annual funds and put more of their efforts into services.

Ways to make it better...

the ED wasn't so stretched

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

Our organization has always received great service from LAM. They have helped us advocate for low-income residents of Marin City for many years. Their attorneys are committed to their clients. We are happy to be one of their clients.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Helping low-income residents keep their housing.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Hire a Black attorney.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The committment of their attorneys to their clients.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Non-black staff that were very sensitive.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help all low-income residents in Marin County with

Ways to make it better...

Have more funding to hire more attorneys.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Hiring Black staff.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They need Black staff.

Legal Aid of Marin has been my sole and most valueable source for legal counsel in order to fight redevelopment plans by a large out of state real estate investment trust which seeks to turn affordable housing into luxury apartments at rates most current residents will not be able to requalify for. LAM has been responsive to my inquiries and have come to the site to explain legal matters to fellow residents. While I have given what I can afford to LAM for their counsel and time, I feel strongly that money has not been a condition for my receiving needed counsel and support. Even a paid attorney - if I could afford one - might not be as responsive to this client and his fellow tenants in their fight for fair treatment for being forced out of their apartment homes.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their responsiveness to questions, knowledge of pertinent laws and cases, and knowledge of other community resources.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

see to the above issue and perhaps see if others served felt the same way.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

a professional yet casual environment and communication style.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Friendly and helpful - never giving the impression that you're a bother or inconvenience to them.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help a lot more people who are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.

Ways to make it better...

we could receive a little more pro-active involvement in pointing out options and strategies for best use of our limited time and resourses.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

how they manage to survive financially.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I would have likely been stomped on by big money - and still might be though to a lesser degree - had I not walked through the door into LAM.
