Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal-Related, Animals

Mission: The mission of Lap Dog Rescue of New Mexico is to rescue, rehabilitate and place for adoption small companion dogs. Our goal is to place these dogs in loving, forever homes and to do this through a rigorous screening and adoption process. We operate strictly through volunteerism, counting on the generosity of others and of ourselves to further our mission.

Results: As a network of caring foster homes where our dogs are temporarily homed and socialized, and not kenneled, we screen applicants so that our dogs will be accepted by the adopting family. We collaborate with other state-wide rescues to save New Mexico dogs that come from many sources: animal shelters, owner surrenders, and actual abusive situations. In 2015 we rescued 440 dogs. Since 2001, we have saved thousands of New Mexico shelter dogs.

Target demographics: save New Mexico Shelter Dogs

Direct beneficiaries per year: 389 rescued dogs - by successfully adopting them into loving forever homes. 440 in total rescued in 2015.

Geographic areas served: Albuqerque, New Mexico

Programs: rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of small companion dogs.

We adopted a little Brussels griffon mix last year from lap dog rescue and have been in love with little girl ever since! Lap dog rescue is a wonderful organization and I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a new pet. When we are ready for another little fur baby we're heading straight to them! Thank you lap dog rescue for all that you do

Truly one of the best rescue groups around. We adopted our sweet little dog from LDR. Not only did they save her life, but her foster parents did an awesome job getting her ready for her forever home.

If a committed dog advocate like Mary Tovey Dolch has chosen to work with Lap Dog Rescue for so many years, the non-profit must be doing something very right. From what I see, it is not only a focused and well run organization, but also appears to be very inclusive, drawing on the talents of many to serve its mission. Bravo!

My experience with Lap Dog of NM is above amazing. I contacted them with 2 small terrier mix boys I had found. A friend ended up taking the older one and LDNM took younger one. He was placed with his furrever home within a month! I know the family's are carefully chosen and Cosmo will be loved. Thank you for all your help!

I called 1 hard night, and I don't know why, but I was able to talk to Marie. I shared I just lost my daddy (this was 9+ years ago) and I needed a "baby". She shared with me about a medium sized Yorkie cross. Later that week, a volunteer brought us this wonderful, amazing dog, Millie. After an hour long interview and Millie checking out our place, she was left with us for 2 weeks. After that, the volunteer returned to see how we all were doing and if okay, we then would sign adoption papers. Well, Millie was what they guessed was 4 yrs old, but that was fine with us! We were so in love with this baby, no way could we give her back! The volunteer stayed in contact with us for awhile, always checking how Millie was. Well, we were Blessed to have our Miss Millie until she crossed the Rainbow Bridge last summer. We miss her so much! But we were thankful for Marie and the volunteer for putting us together, but still checking on us for a while and watching over Millie's well being.
Thank you for allowing us to be Millie's forever home! We are forever grateful and will always have in our hearts Marie, the volunteer and mostly our Millie!
