As a donor, I feel that contributions to the Lancaster Farmland Trust are a permanent investment in preserving some of the best soils in the nation for food production. I see the use of prime farmland for shopping, commercial, and housing development that could easily go in other spaces. I also see the impact that farmland preservation has had on the farming heritage and viability of agriculture in Lancaster County, a county known for a unique mix of cultures. The farmland preservation issue became so important to me that now I am also a member of the Board of Trustees. I have learned that the staff is one of the most professional groups of people I know, that expenses are kept low so that as much money as possible goes toward presevation and stewardship, and that private contributions are doubled or tripled with matches from foundation and government grants. The Lancaster Farmland Trust has also been able to obtain the agricultural easements that preserve the land at extremely low per acre costs, further multiplying the impact of monies contributed. This organization has a huge impact on our and our children's future for food, agriculture, and open space.

As a resident of Lancaster County who appreciates the open farmland the work of the Lancaster Farmland Trust is critical. With the pressure from development, the preservation of farms is essential. Agriculture in Lancaster County is more than just business; it is a special way of life. The Trust leads the way in preservation and plays a critical role in keeping Lanc. Co. so special.

Lancaster Farmland Trust has been a great local non-profit to work with over the years. Their mission is very clear and has a significant amount of momentum in the Lancaster community. I would encourage the citizens of Lancaster County to support this organization through volunteering or through their finaincial support.

The Lancaster Farmland Trust is the perfect organization to consider on Earth Day! Comitted to preserving farmland, the Trust supports the largest positive influence on Earth which is modern agriculture. By preserving farmland and productive agricultural businesses, and enabling them to produce food for a growing population, the LFT is making a huge difference environmentally, economically and socially. LFT is a first class organization both in carrying out their mission of farmland preservation, and in running an efficient organization that is very socailly conscious. Great employees and volunteers doing an outstanding job. Community involvement and support are hallmarks of this organization - preserving farms with private dollars and great public support. Making a huge difference one farm (and family) at a time.
