This is my first year volunteering with Knights of Heroes. So far, my perception of the charity is outstanding. The leadership is very transparent with the financials, which is important for me to know and understand that money donated is spent wisely and not wasted in any way.
Most
importantly, I have seen already the impact this has on the kids and families that participate. Not only do the children benefit, but this is a great life lesson and experience for the volunteers as well.

KOH is an amazing opportunity for young boys and girls to reacquaint themselves with their self confidence since losing their parent in the war. Many people don't realize that when a parent dies suddenly, the child feels very unsure of what he understands about the world. The loss can be so devastating and have a deep and quiet affect on the self confidence and self esteem of a developing child. I have witnessed my son literally "BLOOM" when he returned from spending 1 week at KOH. The camp philosophy is oriented toward allowing the child to rediscover his or her potential in a safe environment where everyone has experienced loss. Through activities and challenges, the kids are encouraged to rely on themselves to problem solve, dig deep, and reveal that they can accomplish difficult tasks with team work and support. Just like a dad would do, this camp allows for physical experiences and mentoring while learning about the world. It is a place that honors what the dad did, exposes the children to the outdoors, and teaches so much that would have been lost. The KOH experience is life changing, thoughtful, fosters growth and confidence, and exactly what my son needed! Thankfully, he will now have this incredible experience to draw from as he becomes a man!

Knights of Heroes works with kids and young adults who have lost one of their parents in the war. We challenge these young people to do things they probably thought they couldn't do. We have individual mentors for each camper who goal is to let these kids know that they are not alone and we are there for them. I watch as a new camper comes in and don't know what to expect. They normally make friends quickly with the other kids because they share a common theme are immediately accepted. You watch as the week gos on and the ones who seemed a little shy at first is right in the middle of everything. They feel safe because they can tell all these men they come in contact with really care about them. My grandson has been coming to this camp since it started and he loves it and is one of the things he really look forward to. I have seen these kids come in and have watch them grow into confident young men, who some come back after graduation as junior mentors wanting to share with the new kids all the great things they have done and to help them have a great experience like they did. I highly recommend this camp because the ones running it truly care about the campers and not only do they want them to have a great time but they want to instill in them that they are not alone and that they can meet any challenge that comes their way. We want to watch them grow into confident men and women.

I have volunteered for the last 4 years and can,t tell you how much I have enjoyed it and have seen the boys really grow in these years. They have a lot more confidence in themselves and they start to open up to others around them and even help the new ones who might feel out of place. Each year you see them get a little stronger and a little more sure of themselves. My grandson has gone for the last 5 years and I know how much this camp means to him. The mentors really care about each boy that comes to camp and we have seen several of these boys turn in to young men that we all ought to be proud of. Young men with confidence and courage and know that we will always be there for them

The opportunities the week of camp with Knights of Heroes provides for my children is invaluable. For them to have the benefit of the outstanding male and female mentors KOH has assembled to help guide and educate our kids is a gift. My children all had fun, but more importantly, I know they grew and learned and are better people for the experience. KOH is making a difference it is making in these kids lives. AS long as they hold the camp, we will keep coming back, and when we are too old to participate as campers, I know my children will want to serve as mentors as well.

Knights of Heroes makes a difference in the lives of the families it serves by teaching life lessons to the children that attend; lessons about responsibility, leadership and most importantly an understanding that we can't let negative life events control who we become and how we go through life. We as Americans owe our freedom to these families and their incredible heroes.

The Knights of Heroes Foundation is an amazing organization. My boys attend the KOH camp each summer. They look forward to it all year. The adults who work with the boys are such wonderful examples of what kind, good, ethical men of character look like. They tell the boys to "rise above" and hold themselves to a higher standard. The children who attend these camps need good male role models and the men at the Knights of Heroes camps are just that. My children lost their Daddy in a helicopter crash in Kuwait. My boys look up to the volunteers at KOH. They are, quite simply, men of honor. I am so pleased that the boys get this opportunity. What a blessing it has been. The boys get to test their skills, increase their self-confidence, and push themselves with outdoor activities.

I just wanted to write an additional review to help Knights Of Heroes toward the 2013 top rated award. Words cannot explain the look on a boy's face when he has just overcome his fear and climbed a 50-foot rock wall for the first time, or the embrace of two girls, who, in just a few short days have both made a friend for life, or the tears in a mother's eyes at the end of camp when she tells you she's just seen her child smile for the first time since her husband died. These things keep me coming back year after year.

I attended the Knights of Heroes camp for the first time this summer. It was awesome. I am 12 and my sister is 10. We were nervous at first, but the leaders and mentors were so sweet and super nice. We felt a lot of love from them right away. My dad was in the Army and was killed in the war 5 years ago. It is hard to grow up without him, but we're doing OK. It was really nice to be at a cool camp with kids like me. We didn't have to explain where our dads were. We all already knew. So, we could just be kids. Colorado is beautiful! And this is an AWESOME foundation!

Knights of Heros is an organization which we fully support. Their goal of supporting children, of veterans killed while on active duty, is heartwarming to us. The KOH help these children realize their own potential and cope with the ultimate sacrifice that their parent gave to their country. We support the mentors for this one (1) week camp in the Colorado environment and we appreciate the caliber of the veterans (mentors) who understand what the military family endures.

I have been involved with Knights of Heroes for two years. KoH is an amazing organization with incredible leadership and selfless volunteers whose sole aim is to help children. The kids get a week to challenge themselves in a variety of adventures, meet up with exisitng and new friends, and spend time in the Colorado outdoors away from any daily distractions. I have seen firsthand the difference this week can make in a child's life and it is truly remarkable.
