Since May 16, I have been working with Adele Doctor and Cecilia Marshall-Doctor at Kids Beating Cancer. It has been a great experience, working at an organization that makes such a difference in children's lives. It has been very beneficial for me, especially working at the marrow drives (up to 3, will be working at 2 more at Valencia), because I am not an incredibly social person. Also, my eye contact is still a work-in-progress. Doing these drives has helped me break out of my shell a bit and has helped me IMMENSELY with my eye contact; in fact, my eye contact is the best it has ever been for a very long time.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Although the interns do not have contact with any of the children, we do know about them through stories from Adele & Cecilia. It breaks my heart to hear about the ones who have past away (due to finding no compatible donor), but it warms my heart that we--even as interns--can help support them & their families and help the ones who do find a donor.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I am a nurse at Cape Canaveral Hospital. We are planning a bone marrow drive at three Health-first facilities in Brevard County September 8, 2009. Adele Doctor from Kids Beating Cancer came to our Tiger Team meeting, and showed a video and gave us instructions and equipment for our drive. We also had one of our associates speak who had been a marrow donor in the past. Both speakers were well received. I have appreciated the communication from Adele, and the support she has given us. We look forward to a great drive and hope to help a young man in Palm Bay who needs a bone marrow transplant.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the compassion shown for the need for donors. Also the courtesy shown to my Tiger Team members, and the professionalism demonstrated by Adele.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have learned a great deal about the need for donors & the process of becoming a donor.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

pleasant, compassionate & very professional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Inservice more in the community and all the hospitals.

Ways to make it better...

My experience was great. I cannot think of something that would have made it better. Thank you so much.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Spreading the word about the need for donors, including organ, tissue, eye, & marrow donors.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are very dedicated to their goals of getting more donors.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

Kids Beating Cancer is a wonderful organization from the workers, volunteers to the donors. It is such a pleasure to work a Giving the Gift of Life event for the US Postal Service. Our employees step up to the plate to become Bone Marrow Donors. When looking back over the years one USPS event stands out in my mind. One of our supervisor's brother was in need of a bone marrow transplant. Adele Doctor, Kids Beating Cancer and Elaine Pancake, US Postal Service gave us the go ahead to organize the Drive. In two hours we had 60+ Postal employees signed up to give the gift of life. The next drive was for the same person but in a different office. Once again the turn out was incredible! My thanks goes out to all US Postal Service employees participating in Giving the Gift of Life. My heart goes out to the family and friends with a loved one in need. God bless all. Sincerely, JoAnn Goodrich

Awesome non-profit that has helped so many kids find marrow donors so they were able to access the treatment their Doctor ordered. I know they have helped many African American children who has the hardest time identifing a volunteer donor.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Identifing donors for patients needing marrow transplants and funding the expensive lab testing not covered by insurance.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

passionate about Kids Beating Cancer and well trained on the needs and programs.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

get more children to transplant and potentialy cure their disease.

Ways to make it better...

the media did more acurate coverage and more volunteers would have come to the drive to be tested.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Raising the dollars for donor testing, a cost not funded by insurance.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am so grateful Kids Beating Cancer is here for the families.

The experience I had was great. They were honest and they helped us to provide help within our community. They were so professional and they explained the process to everyone who came to our Bone Marrow Drive. We have another drive on Aug 22, 2009 and they helped get the word out as well as got us on the radio. I cannot say enough about how they made everything so easy for this cause which has affected our fraternity personally.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

our community with people expecting us to have a Bone Marrow Drive evey 6 months

Hi, I first learned about "Kids Beating Cancer" when I attended a police conference in the Radisson Hotel Miami in 2007. I attended the conference as a member of South Wales Police, and met Adel and the girls on their stand outside the conference rooms. I was interested in the work they did and the help and continued support they provided to children and their families who suffered from cancer. The information they gave was first class and they were trying relentlessly to to recruit new, much needed bone marrow donors to give these children a better life. I was so impressed with the work they were doing, I made contact with similar agencies when I returned to the UK, and have provided contact details of "Kids Beating Cancer" to them to share best practice and provide a link between the USA and UK. All I can say as an outsider is, "keep doing the good work" and please fully endorse the excellent work this organisation is currently doing.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Experts in this feild, patient caring and always put the Children first.
