Wow where do I begin? My son was diagnosed with brain cancer almost 6 years ago. A volunteer from Kids Beating Cancer came to visit him after his surgery. We have had nothing but a positive experience with the organization. Everyone there is so warm and welcoming and they are always willing to help. It really made me feel good to know I had positive people on my son’s side cheering him to recovery.

Kids Beating Cancer is an amazing non-profit organization that uses bone marrow donations and umbilical cord blood transplants to help treat children with cancer and other life threatening diseases. Kids Beating Cancer hosts bone marrow donor drives throughout the community, to gain donors and increase awareness of the benefit of bone marrow donations. This organization also provides support for the children and families through fun seasonal themed parties, hospital visits that include a special teddy bear or blanket, and overall general support during these tough times.
I am currently an intern and volunteer at Kids Beating Cancer and have learned a lot by helping Adele and Cecilia get ready for bone marrow donor drives and through working at the drives. I enjoy the time I spend at the KBC office and am always looking forward to the next opportunity I have to inform someone that their donation could save a child's life.

The first donor I was able to register was a rewarding experience. It made it real; it showed me that this person was willing to help a child in need and give that child a second chance at life.

I feel that Kids Beating Cancer continues to exceed my expectations, as they bring joy and hope to many children and families as they are dealing with cancer and other life threatening diseases. The only thing I would change is to make more people aware of the amazing cause Kids Beating Cancer is supporting. Kids Beating Cancer is only as successful as the community support it receives, and the more people are aware of this organization, the better chance a child has at a cure and a second chance for life.

I am currently an intern at Kids Beating Cancer. Adele and Cecelia are two great preceptors and are always assigning us work to help out around the office. I have volunteered at a few drives already and am looking forward to helping out at more. I happy to be an intern at Kids Beating Cancer and am happy to be a part of such a great cause.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

promoting awareness about the bone marrow registry and the stories of the children who are a part of the KBC organization. It is rewarding to know someone has signed up to be a part of the registry simply from telling them what these children are going through and how simple it is to help.

I have volunteered to help at a few drives that were very successful. I look forward to helping more in the future. Adele and Cecelia are great to work with and this is truly a great nonprofit. It is a challenge to get minority donors, but step by step we can all make it happen.

I heard many stories from people who were already on the registry as donors because they have relatives with sickle cell anemia.

Since May 16, I have been working with Adele Doctor and Cecilia Marshall-Doctor at Kids Beating Cancer. It has been a great experience, working at an organization that makes such a difference in children's lives. It has been very beneficial for me, especially working at the marrow drives (up to 3, will be working at 2 more at Valencia), because I am not an incredibly social person. Also, my eye contact is still a work-in-progress. Doing these drives has helped me break out of my shell a bit and has helped me IMMENSELY with my eye contact; in fact, my eye contact is the best it has ever been for a very long time.

Although the interns do not have contact with any of the children, we do know about them through stories from Adele & Cecilia. It breaks my heart to hear about the ones who have past away (due to finding no compatible donor), but it warms my heart that we--even as interns--can help support them & their families and help the ones who do find a donor.

I am a nurse at Cape Canaveral Hospital. We are planning a bone marrow drive at three Health-first facilities in Brevard County September 8, 2009. Adele Doctor from Kids Beating Cancer came to our Tiger Team meeting, and showed a video and gave us instructions and equipment for our drive. We also had one of our associates speak who had been a marrow donor in the past. Both speakers were well received. I have appreciated the communication from Adele, and the support she has given us. We look forward to a great drive and hope to help a young man in Palm Bay who needs a bone marrow transplant.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the compassion shown for the need for donors. Also the courtesy shown to my Tiger Team members, and the professionalism demonstrated by Adele.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have learned a great deal about the need for donors & the process of becoming a donor.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

pleasant, compassionate & very professional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Inservice more in the community and all the hospitals.

Ways to make it better...

My experience was great. I cannot think of something that would have made it better. Thank you so much.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Spreading the word about the need for donors, including organ, tissue, eye, & marrow donors.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are very dedicated to their goals of getting more donors.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time

Kids Beating Cancer is a wonderful organization from the workers, volunteers to the donors. It is such a pleasure to work a Giving the Gift of Life event for the US Postal Service. Our employees step up to the plate to become Bone Marrow Donors. When looking back over the years one USPS event stands out in my mind. One of our supervisor's brother was in need of a bone marrow transplant. Adele Doctor, Kids Beating Cancer and Elaine Pancake, US Postal Service gave us the go ahead to organize the Drive. In two hours we had 60+ Postal employees signed up to give the gift of life. The next drive was for the same person but in a different office. Once again the turn out was incredible! My thanks goes out to all US Postal Service employees participating in Giving the Gift of Life. My heart goes out to the family and friends with a loved one in need. God bless all. Sincerely, JoAnn Goodrich

Awesome non-profit that has helped so many kids find marrow donors so they were able to access the treatment their Doctor ordered. I know they have helped many African American children who has the hardest time identifing a volunteer donor.

I am so grateful Kids Beating Cancer is here for the families.

The experience I had was great. They were honest and they helped us to provide help within our community. They were so professional and they explained the process to everyone who came to our Bone Marrow Drive. We have another drive on Aug 22, 2009 and they helped get the word out as well as got us on the radio. I cannot say enough about how they made everything so easy for this cause which has affected our fraternity personally.
