The beauty of Kidpower is in it's simplicity and involvement of individuals in their own safety. By not just learning but practicing safety skills people are more prepared to deal with threatening situations, defend their boundaries and advocate for themselves.

The Kidpower organization is made up of wonderfully dedicated and passionate individuals who believe "Life is more fun when you're safe!" There are many nonprofits focused on how to deal with or defend yourself against violence or bullying once it occurs but Kidpower focuses on how to act, talk, react, walk and behave on a daily basis to avoid being the target of bullying, abduction, violence, predators or other dangers. They advocate practicing safety skills in a hands-on fun, interactive and non-threatening way. The Kidpower method is focused on learning through doing and that's what makes it so effective with kids of all ages, seniors, adults with disabilities and everyone who learns better through getting involved!

We have set up Kidpower in the Netherlands after we had a great eye opening training in Santa Cruz.
I was delighted to see how serious personal safety topics were presented in a down to earth, but fun and emotionally safe way to young children. We are still using the skills today and many kids
have had great results in (re)gaining self confidence and the joy of being able to go to school and play in the neighbourhood without being afraid of bullies.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

bring instructor training to other places in the world so it will spread more.

I'm a center director in the Netherlands. I went to the states to bring Kidpower to our country. I love the down to earth and age apropriate aproach to people safety skills.

I'm very impressed with the down to earth attitude of the workshops.
I particularly like the parents- Kids
workshops where parents learn alongside their children how to address serious issues in an emotionally safe and effective manner.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Kidpower brings, not just more safety, but more joy to people's lives. Kidpower's programs are tailored to fit all ages and abilities and focus on what people can DO ; they help people use the personal power they already have to build their skills and confidence. Kidpower empowers its participants by helping them use their minds, hearts and bodies to know how to act with awareness, calm and confidence, take charge of a problem, often even before its starts, and persist in getting help till they get the help they need. And Kidpower does this in age-appropriate way that stays fun for all involved.

Kidpower is an amazing nonprofit! First and foremost, the programs they offer on people safety are world-class. Their teaching methods emphasize teaching people practical skills in a safe and non-threatening manner. Any participant in any workshop will come away with a host of skills that are effective and useful for everyday living, as well as for keeping yourself safe in high risk situations.

I first came across Kidpower when I was looking for a program to help young women learn self-defense skills. At the time (over 20 years ago!) Kidpower was just developing the teen programs. I joined Kidpower, first as an office assistant and then as a teacher, and have remained committed to the organization in one way or another for all these years. Kidpower offers a resource to the world that is in a class of it's own! The interesting thing, is that although I first sought out Kidpower for self-defense skills, I quickly discovered that the skills they taught changed my life by helping me improve my self-esteem, practice effective boundary setting skills, and develop a more refined sense about how to stay out of danger in the first place.

I use the Kidpower resource library all the time. I refer to The Kidpower Book routinely as a parent, and I am now utilizing the Kidpower resources on bullying to address workplace issues. The writings, cartoons and videos that Kidpower has available are very helpful and easy to search.

Kidpower, as an organization and community, practices what it teaches. The organization as a whole is ethical and its integrity shines through in its curriculum, staff, volunteers and programs. I have been involved with Kidpower since 2002, in the capacities of Office Coordinator in the Central Office, instructor, Board member. I am so honored to be a part of this organization and value my experience with Kidpower and am very strongly aligned with Kidpower's vision, mission statement, and values. I feel more confident in the world, knowing that I have the skills to keep myself safe in my interactions with people and my environment. I hope all people can gain the valuable skills that Kidpower teaches!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Living my life in a safe, productive, fun, fulfilling way and also in hearing all the wonderful, inspiring success stories that others have shared about their experiences.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people who comprise it and the valuable skills I've learned.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

compassionate, smart, and very capable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach so many people domestically and internationally to teach them to be safe and provide their employees with wages commensurate with the very important work they do.

I have been involved with Kidpower for 20 years, beginning as a volunteer. I have experienced interaction with this wonderful organization as a volunteer, mother of a child lucky enough to recieve these safety skills from age 5 through adulthood, instructor trainee, instructor, community liaison and Board Member. Our lives have been enriched through increased confidence in all of our interactions with people and our knowledge that we live safely every day. My continued work with Kidpower is to bring this confidence to others.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My life has been positively impacted through taking classes, then teaching classes, and witnessing my daughter and others approach and engage in life activities feeling more confident and safe.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I will just continue to help to improve the quality of knowledge/skills provided and to assure that we can be more visible and available to the community at large.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The opportunity to provide my child with a safer approach to life and the ability to help provide that same experience for the community.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional and committed and always enjoying what they do!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Have a profound and lasting impact on people of all ages and their ability to engage in life and interact with all people in a confident and safe way.

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to be more involved.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Sustainability in the face of these economic times.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Kidpower is a truly wonderful organization which has the passion, commitment and skills to bring people of all ages vital life safety skills. The world is much better place because of them.
