JWS has offered training that taught me how to navigate the electronic job search, has sent nearly daily updates on jobs, training, and training opportunities to help me find a job. The organization not only offers great trainig, but the networking is amazing! The meetings can provide opportunities to meet recruiters, network for opportunities that may not be published, and provides a very positive environment to job seekers.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The seminar on super resumes taught me how to take my run-of-the-mill resume and make it show up through a database in order to get in front of a human set of eyes, then how to handle some of the toughest interviewing questions. And I got some tough ones!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoyed the new friendships and the advice of the volunteers. I felt very welcome and that my concerns mattered. I have found a job, then had to leave, and am now looking forward to more meetings!

Ways to make it better...

If I had come prepared with my 30-second interview, I would not have rambled as much. I would like to hear interviewees reminded to drop hand-written thank-you notes to the interviewers. I would like to have the opportunity to check out or buy books.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The friendly staff.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very friendly and helpful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a solid website and go global.

Ways to make it better...

I had come more often.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the challenges brought on by the economic recession.

One thing I'd also say is that...

JMS is great!

Doug Thorpe has responded to his calling by using his experience, talents and hard work to provide a true ministry to the unemployed community in Houston, and it's working!! In it's 1st year in operations over 1,000 people received guidance and consulting from JMS and found employment. Doug has enlisted many people from the community that are experts in HR, recruiting and many other areas that have played a major part in JMS's success. Weekly meetings are filled with time for networking, small groups workshops, and discussions from the latest tips & techniques, to inspirational and self confidence pep talks. JMS is different! Doug uses biblical scriptures to comfort and inspire and doesn't require or ask for money. The financial supporters of JMS are from the people he has helped and the people and companies that share his vision.

JMS was the bright light, and not that of an oncoming train, in the dark world of unemployment. After becoming one of the millions of Americans without a job last Spring I was informed of JMS by a headhunter. From the moment I walked in I could tell that the atmosphere was different. The people were genuinely caring and interested in me as an individual and all the aspects of who I was not just the fact that I was unemployed. The spiritual encouragement and the positive reinforcement from their personalized attention made it a joy to attend. When they began discussing a program to help spouses understand the dynamics of how being unemployed effects a person I knew that they truly cared about me and the other people who were fortunate to attend. I am forever grateful to JMS for providing me with the tools and strategies to land a job in the worst economy since the Great Depression but I am even more grateful for their spiritual and moral support. I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their ability to provide job search assistance while offering support to the "whole" person not just the aspect of you being unemployed. It is unlike any program I have ever heard of or been involved with and is definitely a model that should be followed

Several key points included a very positive atmosphere, relevant and updated information, and most important, personnal attention. At JMS, you are not just a face in the crowd.
