I have been involved with JFGH for 24 years. I began as a volunteer visiting the residents at their home and teaching dental health education. I can not begin to tell you how rewarding this was. To watch how independent and proud the residents were of their accomplishments and of their home was truly amazing. I was hooked! I have been on the Executive Board for years. I am proud of JFGH and what they do for our community!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching the residents, watching the staff, and being on the board. The staff is extremely dedicated and it shows in everything they do.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I think we are on the right path. The only change I would make is try to find more money so we could expand!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Being with the residents! Their life has truly been enhanced by JFGH!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Incredible and dedicated!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide more service to more people on our waiting list.

Ways to make it better...

My experience is great. It can't be better!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the government funding is being cut.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this is an incredible organization!

My daughter has been a resident in a JFGH home for 16 years. Her development has been beyond our expectations. Her social skills improvement and emotional development has enabled her to maintain her job as a Food Aide with the Navy Dep't. JFGH has won numerous awards, including the prestigious top Charity Navigator Award for 8 straight years, a feat accomplished by only 42 non-profits nationwide. The direct care staff is well trained and management runs an efficient and effective organiztion.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the ability of my developmentally disabled daughter to socialize with her peers, to maintain a more even emotional state, and to avoid getting in trouble at her worksite.

For the past ten years, I have watched with awe the dedication and commitment of JFGH to the needs of the diabled community, and the deep appreciation felt by residents of the group living arrangements and their families. Every day, this organization provides essential and meaningful support to diabled adults and their families.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide more support to more needy individuals. The waiting list is too long, with many families waitingfor room in an appropriate living arrangement.

Ranked four stars by Charity Navigator for eight straight years (only 42 charities in the country hold that distinction), JFGH enables individuals with a variety of developmental disabilities and/or chronic mental disorders, principally developmental, to live more independent lives. Founded 26 years ago by a couple with developmentally disabled children, JFGH, is non-sectarian, and supports 180 individuals in over 65 sites in the Washington Metropolitan area including 23 group homes which are kosher. It runs a tight, but innovative and highly caring, ship and probably is the pre-eminent organization of its type in the country and certainly in the US Jewish. It has cared for my brother for 24 years and has brought him out of the closet to lead, with supervision, an independent life and to pursue daily work, use mass transit, etc.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

what is has done for my brother for almost 25 years. See my earlier comments.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It makes me a better person and makes feel so good, which is not an uncommon experience for those involved.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Outstanding. One reason for its low fund raising and administrative costs is the large anumber of volunteers do perform a vast variety of tasks and interact with clients. This has become one of the area's most desirable service volunteer opportunities

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Investigate very carefully after innovative brain storming to decide how to get the most value from a variety of options.

JFGH is a wonderful organization serving the needs of developmentally-disabled adults. Our son lives in a JFGH group home. He has learned to live independently and has a job. The staff is warm and caring. JFGH is rated 4-stars by Charity Navigator. JFGH has become a model for group homes and transitional job training. The homes observe Jewish dietary laws.
