I have come to high holiday events and they are great. I feel like I am home since I go to school out of state. I like having a place to go to for holidays and meeting new people. It is a great experience.

I have had a great experience with JConnect Seattle. It offers a variety of events, ranging from religious services to outdoor events to dance classes to social gatherings, all bringing together Jewish young adults. I moved to Seattle a year ago knowin noone, and I have made many of my friends through JConnect.

Jconnect has enhanced my experience in Seattle as both a community member and graduate student. Through my affiliation with the Social Justice League, I have seen first hand the work that Jconnect does both within and outside of the Jewish community. During the Yom Kippur holidays, Jconnect organized a group of volunteers to assist at a food bank. Jconnect has also been active in food drives, as well as contributing their earnings from their events to local non-profits - such as Lifelong AIDS Alliance, among others.

The Great!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the connections that I have made with individuals outside of my graduate school community. I have met dynamic people from the Jewish community through Jconnect. Jconnect was essential in helping me expand my network when I first moved to Seattle.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

incredibly friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do an incredible amount of work - engage in more community activities, maintain consistent outreach to other local non-profits, allow those who do not have the funds participate more fully in their Jewish education courses and other activities.

Ways to make it better...

I have made more effort to be involved. Jconnect offers so many activities, so it is hard as a graduate student to commit my time to do everything.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

expanding the number of people that it reaches, especially as many of us "age out" of the organization or move away due to work or life changes.

I have served as Board member/officer on a number of boards. The J Connect/Hillel Board is the most effective one I have ever been on. The staff and board work very collaboratively to insure that J connect programs make maximum use of the dollars spent, have clear objectives and measure the vision against the results. It has been a pleasure to work with such a dedicated staff and watch the program grow to meet and exceed the demands of the community

The organization took me under its wing on my first day in Seattle, and I'm still with them. They have been dedicated to create a creative, yet productive environment for students as well as for community members. Holidays celebrations are spectacular, and there's always a person to turn to when something is wrong.

JConnect is not only a very welcoming organization, but it is dedicated to its pluralistic agenda. It provides events for people who want to learn, party, eat or pray. Or all of those things at once :) Its members are as representative of the organization as the range of events and even a newcomer always manages to find a friendly face at their events.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the lasting relationships I've built and insightful conversations with people who attend their events. Also, they have greatly contributed to helping me build a community which I am proud to be a part of.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

making new friends while connecting with my Jewish roots.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

from all backgrounds, of all sexual orientations, of all religious observances with two things in common: Jewish and friendly!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

give people the opportunity to go on an Alternative Break (and give back--tikkun olam!) who wouldn't be able to otherwise.

In my mind, Jconnect encompasses everything that a post undergrad Jew in Seattle would look for. Social, Spiritual, Religious, Political, and much much more. I had the wonderful experience of going to Israel on Birthright with a group of fellow Jconnectors and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Both Rabbis are AMAZING, the staff is extremely dedicated to the organization, and the members are wonderful and fun people to be around.

I lived closer to Seattle. But I guess thats the price I pay for choosing to live on the other side of the water :)
